Although they say the GFS may be pushing too much cold air into Western Washington, that is just what the NWS says... And they pretty much have a warm bias if you ask me. They are expecting the cold air to be further east... That doesn't mean the trough can't dig off the west coast and bring down arctic air... It's happened many times before, they probably would have said the same thing about the GFS being wild and forcing the cold air too far west... Don't get too excited about the NWS forecast being right. I would think by late in the weekend the trough that is now shown on day 7 will be better than the GFS currently shows... It could very easily turn into a full pledged arctic outbreak...

Brennan......Did you get my PM I sent you yesterday???

Here are a few pics I took today, its been a awesome day, a little odd though. We still have frost in the shade, and the temp is 50 degrees!!! Low Dewpoints must be the reason. Check out the pics!!

This pic shows the frost that has been building since monday night, almost looks like a good dusting of snow on this green!

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/golfer96_ ... pg&.src=ph

Another pic of the frost taken at 10:30AM today

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/golfer96_ ... pg&.src=ph

And this pic shows that it has been infact much colder up here then other places along western WA. (Note the Rock and golf ball on the frozen pond at the course, that ice is quite thick)

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/golfer96_ ... pg&.src=ph

So glad to see the rate of growth on the grass has been cut down to a trickle
Our low this morning was 27.0 degrees
By far the warmest day today with our current high of 50 degrees

2/11/05 LK Goodwin WA
1:00:58 PM CURRENT
Clear
Temperature (ºF) 50.1
Humidity (%) 56.0
Wind (mph) ESE 5.9
Daily Rain (") 0.00
Pressure ("Hg) 29.75
Dew Point: 34.0 ºF

***UPDATE***
55.7 degrees in the shade, and 78 degrees in the full sun at 2:10PM
Just woke up from a nap out on the DECK!!! It is incredible out there. Fell asleep sitting in the very bright and warm sun. Feb 11th, and I am out napping on the deck  8-)

I honestly don't care what happens next week, or the rest of winter for that matter. If it stayed like this I would be happy, if we had a big arctic blast and snow I would be happy! What ever happens, happens 8-)

***Another Update***
Now 67 degrees in Covington as of 2:40PM!!!!!

Ahhhhh...good-ol' cross country skiing...until the rain started falling. lol. If you've been watching the news, you've probably noticed a major weather system affecting California, Arizona and Utah. It hasn't been too bad in Salt Lake City, but St. George is getting inindated with heavy rain and flooding.

As for cross country skiing, SnowBasin is just the place for a medium-range difficulty level...not too bad, but not easy. I would strongly recommend anyone go there either for downhill skiing, cross country or even snow shoeing!! The place is awesome!!

As for the rest of tonight, SLC is expecting an intial bout of moderate snow...1-4 inches...before it ALL changes to rain. You know winter's in a rut when SLC doesn't even get snow.

As for the PNW, really no change. This weekend's system is whimpy at best and next week looks dry with seasonal temperatures. I know some of you are excited at the latest GFS runs, but when has the GFS model been correct this winter season? Maybe once, twice if it was lucky. The European models indicate a fairly strong ridge of high pressure at 135W with a light northwesterly breeze all of next week...so expect plently of sunshine and seasonal temperatures...perfect if you ask me.

Brennan-
I've had too many disappointments this winter with snow/arctic cold. I've given up on this winter, but maybe next winter will be different. For now, I'm truly ready for sun/mild temperatures. If you can't get snow...even in the mountains...why waste time on winter?

Anthony

I'll try to make one more update later on tonight.

Anyone see that statistic on the KOMO 4 weather discussion? It has rained every weekend in Seattle since November 20th. That is a weird coincidence considering how dry it has been. This weekend should extend the streak, even if it is only very light rain.

What I found quite amazing today is even though we hit a high of 56 degrees, we still had frost in the shade that never melted  That ground is hard and cold!!!

Temp quickly dropping here, down to 42 degrees as of 6:20PM under partly cloudy skies!!

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SEATTLE WA 300 PM PST FRI FEB 11 2005

.SYNOPSIS...CLOUDS WILL INCREASE OVERNIGHT AS A FRONT IN THE OFFSHORE WATERS PUSHES EAST. AREAS OF RAIN WILL TAPER TO SCATTERED SHOWERS SATURDAY MORNING AS A COLD FRONT PUSHES ACROSS THE REGION. COOL AND SHOWERY ONSHORE FLOW WILL CONTINUE THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT. HIGH PRESSURE AT THE SURFACE AND ALOFT WILL BRING ANOTHER STRETCH OF DRY WEATHER NEXT WEEK. &&

.DISCUSSION...THE LONG WAVE THE RIDGE OVER THE PAC NW WILL WEAKEN TEMPORARILY TONIGHT THROUGH EARLY MONDAY AS A SHORT WAVE UPPER TROUGH NOW NEAR 140W MOVES BY. THE LONG WAVE RIDGE AT HIGHER LATITUDES WILL THEN RETROGRADE TO 135W AND STRENGTHEN AND WHILE A CUT OFF LOW SITS AND SPINS OFF CENTRAL CALIFORNIA FORMING A REX BLOCK THAT WILL LAST THRU MUCH OF NEXT WEEK. LONG RANGE GUIDANCE FOR THE PERIOD NEXT FRI THROUGH SUN IS QUITE UNCERTAIN AS NEW GFS SOLUTIONS SHOW COLD AIR AND A STRONG NORTHERN STREAM SHORT WAVE TROUGH DROPPING S OUT OF THE YUKON THRU THE TERRAIN FORMING A DEEP WEST COAST TROUGH. PREFER THE ECMWF THAT KEEPS 500 MB HEIGHTS HIGH JUST OFFSHORE FOR A CONTINUATION OF DRY AND MILD WEATHER INTO NEXT FRI OR SAT AT LEAST. IN THE SHORT TERM THE FRONT OFFSHORE CONTINUES TO STRETCH AND WEAKEN. WILL CUT POPS BACK A BIT MORE LATE TONIGHT THRU SAT. COOL SHOWERY REGIME DOMINATES SAT NIGHT THRU SUN NIGHT WITH MOST OF THE AREA DOWNSLOPED BY THE OLYMPICS AND VANCOUVER ISLAND HIGHLANDS IN WLY FLOW ALOFT. SHOWERS ENHANCE BRIEFLY LATER SUN AS THE MAIN UPPER TROUGH SWINGS THROUGH. MOST OF NEXT WEEK...WHILE DRY...WILL BE COOL AS FLOW ALOFT IS FROM THE NORTH AND THE AIR MASS ALOFT NOT PARTICULARLY WARM. STILL NOT BAD FOR MID FEB...A BIT LIKE WE HAD THE MIDDLE OF THIS WEEK. ALBRECHT

No Randy, you are not a loser...thought I`m sure you are only joking.

As far as that temp sensor in the full sun reading 78....think it must be pretty sencitive! Good thing for the one in the Shade, cause at least you`ll know what the REAL actual outdoor temp is. -- Andy

Its just one of those cheap dial ones that was sitting in the full sun, its not very accurate, but it sure felt like upper 70's in the full overhead sun. My digital thermometer sensor never sees the sun. That is the one that I use when I post here. I also have one of those really cool lazer thermometers that you just aim and shoot, it can tell you the temp up to several yards away. Its amazingly accurate as well. I can shoot it at my wall heater across the room, and it will read that temp perfectly!!

Hey you all! Check this out. While at work today...I saw some very cool wispy shaped cirrus clouds that I just had to snap some photos of. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/ajc192004 ... .dir=/f218

Other than some passing cirrus clouds this afternoon, today was a really great day in terms of weather despite some morning thick fog that disapated by early noon time. Our high today was 55 with a low of a frosty 27. -- Andy

PS: Currently at 7:50pm we have mostly clear skies with a temp of 44, DP 32, humidity 61%, and baro 29.50 and slowly rising.

Wow, quiet night on this thread.

Currently moderate snow falling in Salt Lake City...not to rub it in!! lol. It's barely 32F so there should be a quick changeover to rain soon. Another new inch on the ground.

Well, not much more to say. Even Scott Sistek's discussion was unusually short tonight...I guess not much to say either. This pattern is unbelievable for the dead of winter. I can understand no lowland snow/arctic air, but no rain and wind?! And NO mountain snow?! What's the deal...have we turned into Southern California?! lol. I know most don't buy this, but I honestly think our climate is changing. If anyone read that past article on komo4.com, that one meteorologist was indeed correct with their prediction...a prolonged dry period for the Pacific Northwest.

Well, goodnite to all! I'll try to post once, twice again tomorrow. And then I'll be home late Sunday night...just in time for zero period on Monday morning!!! lol...ahhhhhhhh. Everyone enjoy the weekend and pray the mountains get 6-12 inches.

Just admit it Anthony, you ARE rubbing it in LOL
Awesome pics Andy! 8-)

I was doing a little google searching tonight (pathetic Friday night huh) and I came across this.....
Anyone else remember Larry Rice on Kiro7? He wasn't too bad of a Met. He covered the 1990 arctic express well.

I really miss her, she is really good met, and also really good looking

I also remember John Collins on Kiro 7 back in the '80's
Nick Walker was also on Kiro for a long time in the 80's/Early '90's Then was on Channel 11 KSTW in the mid/late '90's
Now he is on the Weather Channel.

Ok folks...looking the tonights 18z GFS, and the Canadain global model...they both show a very strong ridge of high pressure sticking with us for much of the upcoming work week....15th - 18th. Though, while we`ll see mostly sunny skies and maybe patchy morning fog here/there, we will be under a nice northely flow whcih means we can expect some chilly night lows. 850MB temps next week are 0 to around
-6C with 500MB voricity heights of between 552 to 558DM.

In the extened weather outlook...19th through about the 26th, we contiune are strech of dry and mostly sunny weather, but also maybe turning a bit cold by end of the month. The next chance of precip comes in around the 27th...in which we 'might' see some snow as some cold and moist air comes down our way. But Im sure this is way over done, so will leave as is. So for now, look for showers this weekend and into Monday with cool day time highs.
