I don't know where you're from, but the latest GFS run would have me more scared than giddy, if I lived in central or NE Texas. If the precip turns out to be freezing rain, then that could mean widespread power outages that may last for weeks. Many will die driving on icy roads. Snow is fine, but there is no guarantee that the precip will fall as snow.

Re: Texas Winter 2017-2018
I'd also point out that such a strong West Gulf Low will also pump plenty of warm air across Texas above the sub-freezing layer. That's the reason the GFS has the winter precip line moving northward next Sat/Sun. That would increase the risk of freezing rain/sleet.
Well, time for bed. Model projections of precip areas and amounts are really meaningless this far out. I'll pay closer attention next Wed/Thu.

Being so far out makes the anticipation that much more agonizing!

Guidance has been pretty consistent now about ULL placement and precip shield. The varying temp profiles (as wxman57 said above) is the killer.

Still looking the same as it has all day. During daytime next weekend 33 vs 29 degrees will make a huge difference. This run has the upper low further E so we would be somewhat cooler aloft thus the higher snow chances for N Tx on this run.

North Central Texas. Denton county to be precise. I don’t wish for High Risk days but if they’re around, I’ll follow. I’m seeing snow for IMBY. I’m already on record about ice storms and how much I hate them.

GFS tends to have a warm bias, correct?

Well we sure don't want in on the action at everyone else's expense. I sure hope the freezing rain and ice storm doesn't verify as is.

Canadian takes a far western track and puts the brake on the cold air along I-35. Everything slightly to the west. Same storm and set up

Re: Texas Winter 2017-2018
Ha! This GFS run has 2.5" of freezing rain around Austin. I don't think Portastorm would like that. I wouldn't. Hopefully, it's wrong.
