39 with a dewpoint of 34 here too (on my nifty new weather station).

Did notice in their wording they said, "with a steady temperature around 39". I don't know if they think no more more cold air will move in tonight or if the rain will keep the temps warmer. Would like to know their reasoning.

Epicenter of cold is with the high pressure cell currently pushing through the central plains and front range.

Temps in this area are pretty variable throughout the 30s this evening. 0Z models are handling the storm the same as the 18Z runs. GFS initialized the worst and it keeps temps freezing temps west of I-35 and delays precip until morning. NAM is fairly close on initialization and brings the precip in after midnight and keeps freezing temps west of I-35. RGEM is just about spot on with current temps and it brings in the precip after midnight with freezing temps east of the Metroplex.

Latest from McCauley:

The western sections of north Texas (does NOT include the Metroplex) will see freezing drizzle or light freezing rain tonight, tapering off during the day Wednesday and then redeveloping Wednesday night and continue into Thursday morning,

Here in the Metroplex, we stay dry through tomorrow with our chance for freezing rain developing during the predawn hours of Thursday. At this time, the freezing rain line is expected to extend from near Paris-McKinney-Arlington-Cleburne. Along and north of this line will see a relatively brief period of freezing rain Thursday morning before transitioning to a cold rain later in the morning and continuing as a cold rain Thursday afternoon and evening.

The worst conditions in the Metroplex will be in Denton and the western portions of Collin Counties where temperatures will be in the upper 20s during the rain late Wednesday night into Thursday morning. This will cause some very slick travel conditions. But it will be worse just west of the DFW area where temperatures will struggle to get above freezing until the afternoon on Thursday.
This forecast assumes that most of the Metroplex will go above freezing by 9 AM Thursday morning, and therefore less than 6 hours of freezing rain is expected before it transitions to just cold rain. The farther east and southeast you go in the Metroplex, the less the impact from ice.

We are still more than 24 hours away from this event locally, so stay tuned for updates. As new information becomes available we will be able to refine this freezing rain line north or south! Nothing is set in stone with situations like this when we are so close to going either way.

When I checked the NWS site it said "Tonight A 20 percent chance of rain. Cloudy, with a low around 35. North northeast wind 10 to 15 mph." Doesn't sound like we're going to freeze tonight.

Currently, 35 in Texarkana with a dew point of 26. Kind of strange that is colder in Texarkana than other parts of North Central Texas, especially since the front is approaching from the NW.

It's been 30 here for a while on multiple thermometers at my place while other nearby stations are in the upper 30s. The temp seems correlated to cloud cover as we are almost clear here with no wind. If the RGEM is correct then things will get rough with heavy icing.

It's rare but I've seen this before in DFW...the Ozarks are actually the culprit of temps being higher in portions of North Texas than others. When theres a Northeast wind, theres a warm shadow of sort. North to Northwest wind is much better for colder advection into the Metroplex.

A lot of UH football fans will be driving up to Fort Worth starting on the 31st for the Armed Forces Bowl at 11:00 am on Jan. 2nd. I plan on leaving Houston on the 1st around noon. Do y'all think I will have any trouble getting into Fort Worth safely?

Perhaps, it depends on whether the temperatures bust or not, I'd be more worried about the Baylor Michigan game on Thursday though.
