GGEM further south again at 0z w/ the DEC 1-3 event, supports the GFS 12z FRI and 0z SAT runs. but we'll see.

SLP exits of the MA coast-- s/w is forced southward since the PV is suppressing the pattern and the SE ridge is all but gone.

Image

Image

the GGEM also indicates that the event moves NE to NF and becoems the New 50-50 low which thereby shortens the wavelengths and turns the NAO negative.

Image

this Sort of Supports the ECMWF solution in the longer range.

Not quite...but close though. its just a piece of energy hanging back and b/c the trough is positively tilted the ridging develops upstream of the trough instead of downstream and overtop if it was positively tilted.

If the energy was to cutoff (closes off and almost seperates from the flow) and the ridge were to develop to the North of it that would be considered a REX BLOCK. But in any case the Jet is being deflected around it so the trough has no choice but to reposition its self further east. It can have close to the same effect as a +PNA pattern WRT sending the longwave trough into the east, but its NOT a true PNA ridge.

BTW notice the s/w sliding down into the upper midwest, I would watch that closely IF its allowed to dig, howeve Im not sure the Jet is strong enough to drive it south.

SO...If you were in my position and you had to choose...Which would it be a PNA+ OR a NAO-.....If you were allowed to choose only 1. Which would have the most effect on the SE US. :grrr: :grrr: :grrr: :grrr:

PS: I hope we get a good 1 of those this season.

Isn't a Rex Block is when you have a cut-off low and the jet stream flows around that low and then west to east with a ridge on the West side of it forcing everything North around the Low. If it was positioned in the West this would mean Cold Air for the east.

Please correct me on these.

A Omega Block is a huge ridge that builds far north and everything must ride up and over it.

Please do, wxguy25!! I can hardly wait!! Sure I'm certifiably crazy about winter weather and snow, I have been for over 30 years LOL!!! Please explain EVERYTHING concerning synoptics and global teleconnections that pertains to a TON of frigid cold and snow in the East US and South!!!! Then I am going to pray hard for it!!! Better watch out East US, cuz it'll be worse than Feb 2003!!!!! NO, MAKE THAT JANUARY-MARCH 1996!!! :)

What on earth is CSI banding?
What is a deformation zone and why the heck don't I ever see one in northern Virginia lol?
What is a BUFKIT sounding?
I'm trying to think of as many of these met terms as I can that I always see tossed around when there is a BIG snow event in the East. Yeah I'll think of more.....

-Yeah it's ARCTIC JEB and I'm ready for winter!!!!!! :)

Nope, Wnghs2007, I don't EVER get enough snow. I never get tired of snow, and you'll never hear me complain about digging it with a construction-grade, square-edged hardened shovel either. I love the snow, the deeper the better and the colder and the stronger the wind, the better!!! While the Virginia Department of Transportation's vehicles and plows are hopelessly mired in the snow, I'll be effortlessly digging mass amounts of snow and piling it up, going out of my way to be certain it's piled up super-high on the NORTHERN SIDES of solar-insolation-blocking objects such as houses and dense shrubs!!!!

There is never enough snow and cold.

You can take that as an axiom. :)

LOL, Jeb, you want 1995-1996 Winter! I am sure everyone in the NE wants that winter back, but that winter was a winter that might happen for a long time.......

I would love to see the Halifax Blizzard of 2004 in the I-95 areas! Over 37 inches of snow fell in Halifax during the blizzard....
