Before the change to snow...parts of central and north central Oklahoma will become icy...with freezing rain and sleet. By afternoon... however...heavy snow will spread out of western north Texas and southwest Oklahoma...overtaking the eastern two thirds of Oklahoma. Snow totals will average 4 to 8 inches in most areas...with slightly less in northwest Oklahoma. The heaviest snow is forecast between Lawton and Pauls Valley...with totals up to 11 inches. Snow will end this evening...but wind and cold will persist...with wind chill temperatures at 5 to 10 degrees above zero

Heck - the 33 year old kid is going nuts! Bring it Santa! Bring it!
About 15 miles north of there, I imagine we'll see the same thing with the passing sleet/snow shower you're getting.

I was cleaning the house and heard tings on the window - sure enough - sleet. I walked outside and confirmed it just to be sure. It tapered off a bit and is mixing with rain again - but looks promising off to the west - dark clouds moving in.
Heck - any frozen precip is neat at Christmas - but if that fluffy stuff moves in - well -- that would just be sweeter.

I think you're close to the bull's-eye.
OKC NWS says a band of up to 11" from Lawton to Paul's Valley with 4-8" pretty much every where else in their forecast zones.
Remains to be seen if we can get into the heavy snow action here in Sherman/Denison. Moderate to heavy rain and 38...
EDIT: Based on what I'm seeing on current radar trends, in my totally unofficial opinion, I THINK at the moment that heaviest snow accumulations today and this evening will be the Red River and points 30-40 miles south and the Red River and points 50-70 miles north.

Give it some time, this storm is moving much slower than the models projected. This is why many of the forecasts have prolonged the event even into the evening hours as the low continues to wrap and pull moisture on the backside.

Re: Texas winter wx thread (2009-2010)
There is a chance we could get what Abilene is getting here I know they're further west, but they're also just a tad more south than Dallas. That gives me hope.

Re: Texas winter wx thread (2009-2010)
I know everyone says it's slowing down, but just by looking at the radar it seems like the moisture shuts off pretty good just west of Abilene already. Doesn't seem like it'd stay much past 1, or 2. Maybe i'm missing something.

WOW!!!

Snow shield on Intellicast regional radar goes all the way to Lubbock at the moment (broken all the way to Midland), so you've got plenty more to come I'd guess...

Low pressure systems spin counter-clockwise. On the backside the moisture and air is pulled from the north as the entire shield moves east. So rather the stuff up north will head southward slowly in time as the entire thing shifts east. The dynamics of this storm is changing as it deepens.
Edit: Sometimes we forget how big Texas is. Even if the backside appears outside of abilene\lubbock that is a great distance as to say compared to DFW. In other parts of the country this would be distances between several states.
