Looks like there is some light freezing rain in Wise county, trying to creep into Denton county.

Looks like precipitation falling as far east as the NE side of McKinney ... depending on where you are on 380 it could be rain or ice .... Weather Underground map showing temps of 31-34 for the weather stations along and near there

Oh, and it's dropped all of one degree, down to 38 here.

Crazy how it's icy all around what looks like Dallas/Tarrant/Johnson/Kaufman counties but rain for those four. Almost like a "heat island" effect.

That's what the radar is showing. 850 temps under that band is -4 to -5C per SPC meso analysis.

The upper air soundings actually is cold enough for snow aside from the surface from the FW balloon. Areas west of I-35 are at or below freezing so...

Cavanaugh earlier discussing possible ice storm warning..
THERE DOES APPEAR TO BE A BETTER CHANCE AT MORE SIGNIFICANT ICE
ACCUMULATION WEST OF INTERSTATE 35 AFTER SUNSET ON NEW YEAR`S
EVE...TO THE MID-MORNING HOURS OF THE DAY NEW YEAR`S DAY. SOME OF
THE EARLY 00Z MODEL OUTPUT HAS BEEN MORE AGGRESSIVE WITH EXPECTED
PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS WEST OF INTERSTATE 35 DURING THE EARLY
MORNING HOURS OF NEW YEAR`S DAY. IF THIS TREND CONTINUES...AN
UPGRADE TO A WINTER STORM OR ICE STORM WARNING MAY BE NEEDED FOR
THESE LOCATIONS. WE WILL ALSO HAVE TO CLOSELY MONITOR SURFACE
TEMPERATURES OVER THE NEXT 36 TO 48 HOURS. AREAS WEST OF THE
INTERSTATE 35 CORRIDOR CERTAINLY STILL HAVE THE BEST CHANCE OF
REMAINING BELOW FREEZING DURING PERIODS OF RAIN THROUGH NEW YEARS
DAY. HOWEVER...IF TEMPERATURES TONIGHT DROP A FEW DEGREES BELOW
WHAT IS FORECAST...ICE IMPACTS COULD SPREAD EAST TO AND ACROSS THE
INTERSTATE 35 CORRIDOR. MODELS ARE DOING A DECENT JOB WITH LOW-
LEVEL TEMPERATURES THIS EVENING...SO THE FORECAST APPEARS TO BE IN
GOOD SHAPE HOLDING ICE ACCUMULATIONS WEST OF INTERSTATE 35. HOWEVER
THERE WILL BE SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT IMPACTS WITH A SIMPLE 2-3
DEGREE DROP IN SURFACE TEMPERATURES THROUGH NEW YEAR`S DAY.

Models are just trying to BURY the Mineral Wells area in ice, .5" of qpf by midday thursday... If it were up to me I would definitely put them under an Ice Storm Warning..

6Z RGEM @ Midnight NYE-NYD : http://www.tropicaltidbits.com/analysis ... s=574.5455

with it's temps 30-31 for metro...

then @ 6 am NYD : http://www.tropicaltidbits.com/analysis ... 3106&fh=30

pretty impressive stuff & great consistency over the last 36 hours..

FTW NWS expanding advisory to the east one row of counties, upgrading some counties to warning criteria. Interesting to note that they are changing to winter weather advisories/warning instead of freezing rain due to sleet being more of a dominant precip type than earlier expected....Trending colder/wetter!!

Good morning early weather watchers. Orangeblood you beat me to it. Just saw a report expanding the warning/advisories. 33 degrees on the way to work. Saw what looked like snow on Interstate 20 that had already fallen. Quite windy as well. Plot thickens.

LARGE SCALE UPWARD FORCING WILL BE ON THE INCREASE TONIGHT AS THE
STRONG UPPER LOW CURRENTLY OVER SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA MOVES EAST
ACROSS ARIZONA. ALTHOUGH THE BEST LIFT WILL STILL REMAIN WEST OF
THE REGION UNTIL THE UPPER LOW GETS CLOSER...ALL 00Z MODEL RUNS
INDICATE THAT A PIECE OF ENERGY WILL ROUND THE BASE OF THE UPPER
LOW AND MOVE EAST NORTHEAST ACROSS THE REGION. FOR THIS REASON WE
HAVE DECIDED TO EXPAND THE ADVISORY THAT IS CURRENTLY IN EFFECT TO
INCLUDE ONE MORE ROW OF COUNTIES TO THE EAST AND ALSO GRAYSON...FANNIN
AND COLLIN COUNTIES. WE HAVE ALSO CHANGED THE FREEZING RAIN ADVISORY TO A
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY SINCE THE PRECIP TONIGHT MAY BE MORE OF A
MIX OF FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET. IT DOES APPEAR THAT FREEZING RAIN
WILL BECOME THE DOMINANT WEATHER TYPE AFTER SUNRISE THURSDAY ONCE
THE WARM LAYER ABOVE THE ARCTIC AIR DEEPENS. OUR PRIMARY CONCERN
IS THAT THE NORTHWEST ZONES WHICH ARE CURRENTLY IN THE MIDDLE 20S
WILL NOT WARM UP MUCH TODAY AND THAT THERE WILL BE A PERIOD OF
FAIRLY SIGNIFICANT ICE AND SOME SLEET THURSDAY MORNING. FOR THIS
REASON WE HAVE DECIDED TO UPGRADE THE CURRENT ADVISORY TO A WINTER
STORM WARNING. THE WARNING AREA WILL INCLUDE LOCATIONS ALONG AND
WEST OF A LINE FROM JACKSBORO TO STEPHENVILLE TO GOLDTHWAITE.
ACCUMULATIONS OF ICE AND SLEET IN THE REGION COULD TOTAL ONE
QUARTER INCH. AM GROWING MORE CONCERNED THAT ALL MODELS ARE
TRENDING WETTER AND COLDER SO FUTURE UPGRADES AND ADJUSTMENTS ARE

It dropped to 29 last night and nnowrise to 34 with the cloud cover, dp is 26. The morning models are pretty much unchanged from previous runs. The RGEM is most aggressive with an inch of ice for FW and icing north of I-20 in East Texas. Others hold the ice 50 to 100 miles further NW as they are askew with the precip and warmer.
