NAM tonight is a little better, much more robust shortwave and if it can come out before the cold air leaves. Not a bad trend if it is that, some SREF support

First and foremost, the PWC wishes a Happy New Year to Storm2k members!

In terms of sensible weather this week, it still appears like a minor winter weather event could occur for places like Del Rio, Ozona, Sonora, stretching into western sections of San Antonio and maybe even the active fracking areas of south Texas (i.e. Cotulla). The 12z GFS is coming in and shows enough precip and cold enough 850mb temps that perhaps some sleet or even a few snowflakes might fall late Thursday into early Friday. The SREF ensemble means also show this happening.
The PWC does not anticipate any wintry "excitement" occuring in its own backyard, unfortunately. This little event could still offer a surprise or two though. We shall see.
And finally as others have alluded to, after a brief moderating period around mid month, it appears winter returns to Texas later in January. Here's to 2013 and lots of winter storms impacting all areas of Texas!

Happy New Year! Any freeze along the coast anticipated from this next storm? Those maps are looking somewhat scary to my plants.

The weather services don't seem to be expecting any kind of wintry event this week. San Angelo nws doesn't mention any kind of precip for areas around Sonora and Austin nws says, " HAVE BOOSTED NIGHTTIME TEMPERATURES SLIGHTLY FOR THURSDAY NIGHT AND FRIDAY NIGHT AS DEWPOINTS SHOULD TREND UP AS THE AIRMASS SATURATES A LITTLE."
Edit: By the way Happy New Year everyone.

It will probably last a little longer than that. The difference for Texas compared to the east (they will feel the brunt of it) is that we will be accompanied by clouds and some moisture with the warm up. NW Canada is now warm so we'll see how that turns out
And again, don't panic! Warm up is relative to where we are now. For instance GFS has DFW back into the low 50s next week which is normal. Then a day or two into the low 60s which is seasonably warm <- might be accompanied by some rain. Then the trend goes back down

Sorry Comanche he's had a few rounds taken out of him.

Maybe in a couple of weeks he'll regain his strength.

Interesting to note that the 12z GFS snow maps show accumulating snow later this week from Sierra Blanca/Van Horn area down southeast along the Rio Grande to about Del Rio, and then north to areas just to the south of Sonora.

One week after the 2012 White Christmas miracle in North Texas, I still have a few patches of snow near the house. Shows how chilly it has been all week.
A football field that's elevated at a local middle school still has some drifted snow hanging around as does a road that had a little drifting action.
Snow patches still on the ground seven days later, not bad for a North Tx two to three-incher!

Did you look at the zone forecasts? NWS San Angelo has a mention of rain or snow late Thursday night into Friday for Sonora and Ozona. They also discuss the possibility in their morning AFD and that was before the colder-looking 12z GFS run came in.

My mistake, I was looking at some general forecasts.
Am I reading maps wrong on twisterdata.com or do some of the snow accumulations look like they are close to our doorstep.
