GFS is below zero here :double:

I'm telling you guys quit worrying about the individual runs and look at the pattern. Things are about to get busy

Yep, there is it is….ULL kicking out sooner with Polar Jet phasing. The trend you want to see, freezing line will be much further south than depicted as well. If Euro starts going this direction, GAME ON!

CMC coming around too, setup looks great for next weekend. Dense Arctic push at the surface with Baja ULL pumping the STJ moisture at the mid and upper levels .

The GFS shows an ice storm here. With the CMC also showing it. This is the first time I've seen the models show a winter storm this season within 200 hours FWIW.

My weather apps keep saying snow possible in the next hour.

And it's cold outside, winter is here.

I feel this is the catalyst we needed.

Tommorow in Houston looks to be 30f or so in the burbs. That would be my 3rd freeze this winter, which is somewhat impressive at this time. Even though the models keep waffling in my area I am tending to think we're heading into a cooler than normal time by late month with the possibility/probability of a really cold punch for us around the end of Jan./early February. We shall see. Definitely in a "cool down" mode.

This has the potential to be a very potent arctic airmass, seeing barney colors showing up on ensembles is eye opening, seeing those colors on an operational run is one thing, but for ensembles to start showing that, look out folks!

It looks like it should be snowing in Dallas County. My wife and son are coming back from a college trip today. I was all excited telling them to look out for flurries.

Yes, but will we get the proper phasing? That’s the million dollar question!

Temps overnight have trended colder. Hard freeze now expected for portions of SC TX. Mid to upper 20's across Bexar County.

My palms have no trouble with upper 20sF freezes. Some lived and some died after 2021. I accept no week plus away precipitation model forecast but I will note globals tend to err warm because of resolution. *If* the GFS is otherwise correct 8 days away, low level temps will probably be colder than forecast and the ice line would be deeper into Texas. US and Canadian ensembles still deflect the coldest air to the E of Texas.

Agaib dont worry about the operational run, the euro is exceptionally bad at handeling shallow cold air masses, 2021 is an example of that lol, ensembles look really good

I have a UIL journalism practice meet next Saturday so I hope weather isn’t bad or it’s bad enough to preemptively cancel.

Either one is fine with me.
