Hi folks. Well....from looking at the 6z - 18z of earlier today, and now seeing the new run of the 00z...they all point to dry and sunny weather for tomorrow through at least the 23rd, 24th time frame due a very strong ridge of high pressure centered over the Western U.S mountain areas. A small trough may try and slide through this coming Sunday per the GFS, ECMWF, GEM, and Canadain Global model. UKMET model keeps the High pressure going through that time period. So will go with a small chance of shower for that day, though we just might end up with some passing clouds.
850MB temps through Saturday are 0C to near +3C at times, then Sunday...they lower to a -3C by 12z and -6C by 18z. 500MB voricity heights are 564 tomorrow through about Thursday, then lowering to 558DM for Friday into Saturday, and then finally to 540DM on 00z Sunday before rising up again on 18z Sunday. And viewing the 300MB Jet stream, looks like the Jet reamains in a sort of split flow pattern through at least the 26th, and maybe even beyond that time frame.
So in the short term, we can look for nice, clear and crisp days ahead!

R-Dub...That is a very interesting article about the past droughts in this area. I do have one possible piece of evidence that they are not totally correct in what they said. I have weather records for Fort Steilacoom (now Lakewood) that date back to 1850. The article said there was a drought that began in the 1840s and lasted for 12 years. The problem is 1850 had 33.38 inches of rain and 1851 had 31.72, and that is without Feb, Mar, and Dec because those months are missing. That drought either had to of began earlier than the 1840s or it was shorter than 12 years.
The temperature in Covington is doing some real acrobatics tonight! In the last 15 minutes it went from 34 to 36 and then down to 33. This can be one strange place!

This is where the east wind in the foothill areas makes things so fun! The wind briefly picked up a little bit ago, and raised the temp, but at the same time it dropped the dew point to 23. Now the wind has stopped, and the temperature has plunged 4 degrees in about 20 minutes. The dew point is still at 23. The dilemma is...if the wind stays calm for the rest of the night this ends being one of the coldest places becuase of the very low dew point, and no wind to inhibit the cooling. If the wind picks up again later tonight it ends up being one of the warmest places, due to mixing of the airmass and compressional heating.
Just some insight for those of you who live near the foothills!

Good early morning moring you all! Taking a look at the morning run of the 06z GFS...the dry and sunny period now lasts from today through the 25th with a strong canadain high re inforcing the sunny weather this coming Sunday. A weak system may try and brush the far Northern tip of the Washington coast on the 24th. 850MB temps of today are around 0C, and warming to +3C for tomorrow through Saturday, but droping back to -3C by 06z Sunday. 500MB voricity heights are 564DM for today through Friday and droping to 552 on Saturday into Sunday. So that small trough in last nights models is now a bit further East of us and slides down the Eastern Wa, Idaho border during the day Sunday. -- Andy

I woke up, flipped on the TV, and Rich Marriot said its warmer in all areas this morning, so I looked at my thermometer, and found out he is wrong............
Currently 26.9 degrees, a few degrees colder then yesterday here at the same time.

Hi folks. Taking a look at the 12z GFS...this ridge of high pressure seems never ending as it looks pretty dry and mostly sunny right through about the 27th. though there is one exception and that is may have a few light sprinkles late in the day on the 23rd and into the 24th. Other than that, no REAL threat of definate showers till the 28th. -- Andy

Temperatures warming nicely. It took until 3 p.m. yesterday to get to where we are at 11 a.m. today. Mostly mid-40's now with North Bend and Covington just about to 50 degrees (and its still before noon).
Of course R-Dub is probably stuck in the 30's. I give up on trying to predict that microclimate. Its ALWAYS cold up there. Even when places to the north and south are warm. In my opinion that would suck. But thats just me.
Anyways...tough call this weekend. ECMWF shows a strong system... the GFS shows almost nothing.
Either way... its back to MAJOR ridging next week and the spring-like weather continues!!

Wow, another awesome day!! Currently 48F with bright sunshine! When will this stretch end?! This is definitely not February-like...this is more typical of May, if not June.
In any event, this weekend's trough is almost gone on the latest GFS, but stronger on the European models. Since the European model has handled winter weather better than the GFS, I'm leaning toward that. But until I see some run-to-run consistency, I won't believe anything.
Next week looks very similar, if not identical, to this week. Overnight lows in the 20s, afternoon highs in the 50s. I kind of hope March and April are fairly wet and cool for the mountains...we desperately need snow up there. But after a few weeks of that, hopefully this pattern continues, but warmer.
Winter's OVER, Spring is HERE!

LOL TT, yeah its a wierd place I live at, drive down to Marysville, or Stanwood and its always several degrees warmer. As soon as I start to climb up the hill towards where I live, (much more dense with the trees as well as being up 500FT) the outside temp gauge in my truck always starts dropping like a rock, and by the time I pull in the driveway, its about 4-6 degrees colder. We are warmer today though, up to 41.3 degrees. But oddly enough, there is more frost still all over compared to yesterday, even on the roads in the shade, its kind of slick. The ponds at the golf course are frozen hard, I was even able to walk on the edge (afraid to walk out far, that would be very cold if I dunked in
)
I will have to take a pic of the huge hill I have to climb to get up towards my house, that might tell the tale.
Our low this morning was 24.9 degrees
