We are up to 53.8 degrees now.

Same in Covington.

I have seen this by my house as well... someone please explain to me how in the hell frost survives when its in the 40's or 50's. The air temperature is taken in the shade so I know its above freezing in the shade.

In Minnesota... or even in California... frost will melt when the temperature is BELOW freezing but the sun hits it. When the air temperature hit 33 degrees... all the frost is gone.

Yet here in Seattle... I have seen frost with air temperature of 50 degrees. How is that phyiscally possible?? Do we have a special kind of super-frost?? It seems to go against the laws of nature and I cannot understand it!! Its driving me crazy.

Also... our ground is not frozen like in Minnesota. Yet they can melt their frost immediately. Even in the woods. Our warm ground holds frost FOREVER.

We are on planet Earth right?? The same laws of thermodynamics apply??

As of 1 p.m. most locations are almost to 50 degrees. Just like I predicted. We should get to or exceed 50 degrees across the Seattle area this afternoon. Slightly warmer tomorrow.

Of course we would have to get up to 85 degrees to melt the frost here on planet Western Washington!!

Did a little more checking today at the course weather records, lots of frost in Feb is not unusual, here are some stats....................

I added up all the frost delays we have had at the course from 1991-2004..........

Feb had the most, 91 days of frost delays
Jan was 2nd with 67
Nov was 3rd with 60
Dec was 4th with 53
March was 5th with 48
April was 6th with 11
And Oct was last with 10

As for course closures (due to high temps not getting above 34 degrees or snow on the ground) here are the stats.....

Jan had the most with 93 days of being closed
Dec was 2nd with 86
Feb was 3rd with 31
Nov was 4th with 20
March was 5th with 8
Oct was last with 1

Not much more info in the afternoon discussion..................

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SEATTLE WA 230 PM PST WED FEB 16 2005

.DISCUSSION...NOT MUCH TO REPORT ON WEATHER FRONT AS CLEAR SKIES REMAIN OVER WESTERN WASHINGTON THE REST OF THE WEEK. TROUGH THAT EARLIER RUNS HAD SWINGING DOWN OVER THE NORTH CASCADES SATURDAY NIGHT IS NOW MUCH WEAKER IN LATEST RUNS. STILL PERHAPS A CHANCE OF A LITTLE SNOW IN THE NORTH CASCADES SATURDAY...SPREADING TO ALL THE CASCADES SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY. BUT IT IS NOT A STRONG SYSTEM AND CHANCE POPS ARE THE BEST IT CAN DO. HIGH PRES RETURNS TO SOUTHERN BC AFTER THAT FOR MORE OFFSHORE SURFACE FLOW. UPPER RIDGE REBUILDS OFFSHORE. IT ALL TRANSLATES INTO MORE OF THE SAME NEXT WEEK. BURKE

Hey all. Just took a look at the latest 18z GFS...and the strong high pressure ridge keeps going tomorrow through at least most of Friday the 25th. May/might have a few sprinkles for the weekend of 26th, 27th...but as usual...high pressure returns for the start of the work week. Now about this weekend. While the GFS still points to a mostly sunny weekend with possibly some passing clouds on Sunday with somewhat cool 850MB temp and H500MB of about 540DM, the Canadain Global, UKMET, and ECMWF are still avertising a deep trough for sunday evening with 500MB heights in the upper 530's to low 540'sDM. So my thinking is that we'll at least see some scattered light sprinkle/shower activity for that day. -- Andy

You guys probably don't believe me, but it looks like we topped out at 42.8 degrees, now dropping, down to 40.9 degrees, these pics might give you a little proof that I am not fibbing with my temps..............

Still have a little hail in the shade that fell last Sat. night, pic was taken at 2:30PM today.
http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/golfer96_ ... pg&.src=ph

Another of the hail.....
http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/golfer96_ ... pg&.src=ph

This is at the top of the big hill I live by, this is looking down and out to the east, the town at the bottom is Marysville, the cascades are in the far distance, but my camera didn't pick them up well
http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/golfer96_ ... pg&.src=ph

This is the pic of the hill at the bottom, I live about a mile past this hill still at elevation(camera doesn't do this hill justice, the elevation change is about 450FT and the hill is a little less then a half mile long, If you have a 4cylinder car, you will have a max speed of 20MPH  )
http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/golfer96_ ... pg&.src=ph

BTW it was 42 degrees at the top of the hill, and 46 degrees at the bottom

The reason the Frost stuck around when it was 60* was because the dew points were so low. But 60* with shade kinda seems a little but I guess if it were to happen it would be because of the dew points being so low...

Well yet another spring day today here in the Outskirts of Bellingham... I got way up there today on my high temperature today it really amazed me... it was a balmy 37* high temp today after a morning low of 27*... Yesturday's numbers were 38 and 28 so today was 1 degree colder on both stats. Everything is still coated in white with frost... Really feels like spring at my house by Lake Whatcom. Especially with the water being so warm, the water temp is all the way up to 38* now with all this spring like weather lately.

I kind of like this dry pattern we are in... Makes for really cold mornings that make things look all WINTRY :-)

TT i love your posting every 5 minutes of the temps all around the sound. Why are you posting Covington's elementary school temp? Are you trying to prove Snow Wizz wrong of his high temp or something? Let him post his temps at his house... i don't think anyone here goes to Covington Elementary school... Then again, maybe some of us do. (TT) :D Just kidding...

I think we are going to have one of the coldest low temp months in a long time... At least in terms of number of nights below freezing. Of course January had like 14 during the first 14 days of the month.

With my Tahoe that has the 5.7LTR V-8 (and some other mods in it), I max out at around 60MPH up hill...........You don't what to know how fast I have gone down that hill, but that was in my younger stupider age  That hill is quite interesting when it snows also, so many people think they can make it up there, but most never do, the state usually shuts it down pretty quickly before too many people go slidding all they way down with there cars.

Brennan...

Here we go again.

First of all... you are damn near 20 degrees colder than most places around Seattle. Great. It is the DEAD OF WINTERin Bellingham. Well not quite Bellingham because it is pushing 50 degrees there as well. Strange that you are 10 degrees colder!! But anyways... great for you. So the other 3.5 million people that live in places that are 50+ degrees should assume its the dead of winter because somehow its in the 30's at your house!!!

O.K.... everybody. New rule. Unless its warm at Brennan's house we will ignore the temperature outside our window. Who cares that we are ALMOST to 60 degrees on the Eastside. Hey... its in the 30's at Brennan's house!!!!!!!

Brennan... do not watch the news tonight. They are going to talk about the wonderfully warm and sunny day around Western Washington.

Second... we all post school site data. Its a great way of getting localized information. Covington is one of the warmer spots. In fact... Covington, North Bend, and Issaquah create a nice triangle around the area.

So..... enjoy your arctic cold. God has blessed you with some little Alaskan microclimate. We will all change our impressions of the weather to match the conditions in your backyard!!
