12 Years ago today was a rarity . . .

On January 27th and 28th back in 2009, a significant sleet storm
tracked over western north Texas, up through southern and central
Oklahoma. Most of this sleet affected areas near and southeast of
Interstate-44, from near Wichita Falls, Texas, up through Duncan,
Chickasha, Purcell, Shawnee, Seminole, and Holdenville. Up to 4
inches of sleet
accumulated on top of a quarter-inch of ice.

It's nice to see Arctic air on our side of the world for once. So at least February has that, with a better Pacific.

Looks like pretty good agreement on the board of possibly the first arctic outbreak of the season coming in early Feb.

I’m not really worried about snow. I at least want some extremely cold temps and that’s what it has headed our way. Snow would be great but it’s not likely.

Get a 1055 MB High Pressure Wind-maker into the Northern Plains, then add some moisture to Central Texas . . .
(If I get all of the winter fun & you don't, then I feel bad for y'all down there in Texas.)

Yeah. Let’s worry about the cold first. We can work on the precip part later.

Big fight in between. Does the cold eventually win out? Perhaps, but probably not sustained cold with that kind of negative indicator showing up from the PNA. Stout ridge anchored over the SE trying to keep the cold air from advancing too far south and east. Not a great signal for precip with the PNA that negative either across Texas.
