Can't wait to see the updated drought map for Texas after this is all done. I bet some places in the state will be caught up. Ok, we got our rain now bring on winter!

"Glad to see this steady soaker rain we are getting. Our guage here at the Lewisville office recorded 3.84" in the last 24 hours. During that same timespan Lewisville Lake rose almost a foot (current elevation 517.21') and Ray Roberts rose a little over 3/4 of a foot (current elevation 628.82')."

I'm going to change my earlier prediction for the rise in Lake Lavon from 4' to 6'. After driving in and seeing the incredible amount of run-off that is flowing into Ray Hubbard, I know that the same amount(or more) has to be draining into Lavon.

FYI, here in Sherman/Denison, we've easily had five inches or better in most of the Grayson County area since 5 p.m. yesterday.

Water is flowing EVERYWHERE, creeks are full, some small lakes are over their banks from runoff, pastures are flooded, etc.

And it is still coming down with about another hour of moderate to heavy rain to go.

Rain finally winding down here in Grayson County after nearly 17 hours of steady rain to very heavy downpours.

I'm sure the NWS radar is overestimating a bit, but it is showing several patches of 10-inch rainfall amounts in central and western Grayson County. I'd bet that works out to 5-7" of rain in those areas.

Nearly every location in our county has had 4-inches or better.

My backyard is several inches deep in water.

Hmmm. Maybe it isn't overestimating the rainfall by that much after all.

"GRAYSON COUNTY, TX - The Grayson County Sheriff's Office reports several roads are closed due to high water from rainfall the past 24 hours.

Here's the list of road closed at this time in Grayson County:

Luella Road 1 mile south of Hwy 1417 at the bridge
Gage Road west of Miller Road north of Hwy 82
Horseshoe Road off of Hill Road near Tioga
Hunter Road near between Tioga and Gunter
Pecan Street east of Sadler
Dagnan Road @ Swindle Road west of Sherman
Jordon Creek Road, Collinsville
County Road 226 near Tioga
Range Creek Road near Collinsville

6.85 inches of rain at my house in the far southern end of Midlothian in less than 24 hours.

Combine this with the rain we had earlier this month (1.77") and we end up with 6.03" officially at DFW for the month of January so far.

Second wettest January on record, if my math is correct.

An average January in DFW has 1.90" of rain (or rain equivalent ) and is the driest month of the year climatologically. Not this year!

In addition to that, there is reported damage in Austin from a possible tornado and some high water rescues going on in portions of central Texas.

WOW is right...what a Godsend for Austin! Y'all had been left out of alot of the rainfalls we got up here in North Texas. Congratulations!

The Drought Monitor site updates Thursday (tomorrow), but it will be using data from Tuesday (yesterday) .... so we won't really see the improvements until next week's update.

Well the models the past few days had it stalled in the big bend area and send energy east as it's a very large system, which pretty much did that thus far. As far as today, heavy rain should redevelop in Sw and west Texas heading northeast behind the system, how far east it makes depends on the track, short range models keep it west of I-35. But that will be more of a heavy rain maker than severe weather I think, the atmosphere has been too worked up ahead of it.

FWIW, the European for the second consecutive run has shown some "interesting" developments out at the 216-240 hour range. It's showing a cold high pressure plowing down into the southern Plains from western Canada with a possible cutoff low developing in the Four Corners area.

Given how many times the medium-range models (both the GFS and Euro) have pulled a "Lucy" on us, I'm not all that enthused right now. Just something of note.

Definitely some impressive new thunderstorm development and heavy rains out in the Big Country near Midland/Odessa.

Even some mixed precip and snow showing on the Intellicast radar on the western flank in the higher elevations.

Don't think we're done with the rain yet in Texas.

PNA getting out of the trenches, so maybe the next system could have a little more cold air in it, based on how this winter has gone I would doubt much. Sure lovin the rain though, nothing like walking to the parking lot with ankle water and a drizzard (wind + drizzle) pelting your face! Now this is what I call biking weather!

The teleconnections are changing, so I fully expect even more wild swings in the models, as evident in the recent runs (western ridge all over the place)
