Position of that surface high in that snapshot would NOT support enough cold air for Snow in central Texas. Of course I am not looking at 500 mb.

GFS has a 500mb low over Wichita Falls at that time. The only problem with snow is that it only occurs in cold weather. Snow in July would be fine, when the temps are in the mid 90s...

It's only two weeks out!

Model guidance has been terrible so far this year. El Nino has returned to Faux Nino, and it might not rain significantly until February.

I love snow but I hate the cold. We still have a shot at snow here in Houston, but there needs to be some colder air moving out of Canada for that to happen.
My main hope for the East Coast storm is that it covers Jim Cantore up completely.

Euro and GFS agree that after a benign end of Jan Feb will start with an Arctic outbreak. Canadian has zonal flow.

Man I really like this version of wxman57. Can we keep him?
I know what is next. 80's in February. Dogs sleeping with Cats. Pluto becomes a planet. This Summer will be like 2011. No good can come from this..ugh...I think I am going to cry. I will admit the Cantore comment was funny

Well guys... it's officially snowed in Florida before it snows for most of us...

Hopefully this outlined pattern will come to fruition to begin February as January comes to a close. As mentioned the main risk is before the storm comes out it will really pump up some heat. But that's a risk we will take for a good bowling ball and some -EPO. We'd take a December storm with February climo.

At the very least with the SW trough we can split the jet and crank up the East Pacific moisture.

Re: Texas Winter 2015-2016
Signal for a big storm/blizzard to effect the southern Rockies out to the southern plains is growing stronger to bring in February. Right now the models keep the snow up in the central plains, but as with many systems before it eventually they will shift to kicking out of west Texas

Well, at least the skiing will be good in March!
Looking at the radar in the VA area right now as a weather geek is actually quite fascinating right now. The dynamics of this storm look amazing right now. Seeing the bands of convergence come on shore is pretty cool.

Makes you wonder what Houston radar would've looked like in 1895. Probably that kind of banding coming onshore from the Gulf moving N and NW due to a slowed ULL in waves
