I do like the way the NAM is trending for Late Friday/Saturday if we could get that trough tilted negative it could get real interesting.

One thing models keep showing in the long term is a constant block over Alaska with a very blocky looking pattern persisting across the Arctic. The NAO is the only thing that looks like it’s not cooperating. We might be in a fairly long stretch of colder than normal temps across the Southern Plains and South with a couple of days of above normal temps here and there between storms/fronts. The cold air seems to keep reloading in models with a noisy subtropical jet beneath.

Below 0 temps are a big deal here, but -20 degrees in Kansas, that's just as unheard of.

Zero degrees(0) in Dallas on January 1, 2018 on the GFS

That would be one heck of a start :roflmao:

I'm not even giving it much weight and looking at it last in the model suites.

Heh, that's what I've been doing in the WPac.

I saved it also. Zero degrees on Jan 1? Too funny. But if it happened it would be a reverse Cat5 in the gulf story on Storm2K forever. But I know I will just end up deleting this when its 72 on New Years.

We ended up with over 4" out here and DFW nearly got 3". This system has to feel jilted, it was overshadowed by a phantom snow storm and no one talked about it

I think that's because the models didn't show it until just a few days out. And they underestimated the totals again.

Aw. DFW hits 11 on the GFS meteogram NYE(its all that darn concrete at the airport  ), still would be coldest day ever(record is 12 from February 12 1899)

:roflmao:

Also dips to -1  which would tie for 3rd coldest temperature on record

I'll be awaiting the 70s next run to offset this..

The GFS isn't all alone on this. For several runs now the Euro EPS has had some sub zero members at DFW.

GFS has no credibility with it's bi-polar runs, I've learned to basically ignore it. Euro and Canadian along with the NAM are your better sources. Tomorrow is where I will start on model watching for any possible winter events Saturday thru Tuesday.

Something tells me this year's Cotton Bowl will be a flashback to the Noter Dame game when Joe Montana lead the Irish a win over Houston. :cold: Except it won't be played outside

Euro looks to be a bit slower with the Friday/Saturday storm... still a bit warm for frozen though. Rain ends with temperatures around 40 in Dallas Saturday morning

close to 2 inches of rain too again

Christmas Eve well into the 50s this run

DFW barely freezes Christmas morning this run. Much warmer for Christmas this run. Cold air stays north of the state
