Where did you see these reports? Temps are well above freezing in the lower 10,000 ft over Pensacola (at least according to the current RUC sounding). Perhaps it was a passing thunderstorm dropping some hail? A larger hailstone would be able to survive falling over 10,000 ft in above-freezing air.

Wxman, Sunnythought posted earlier it was sleeting in Pensacola. I checked facebook and indeed there were about 10 reports of sleet all around the city.

I've seen the reports of sleet in P'cola in numerous spots, most numerously on twitter. The report from crawfordville was from TWC.

Most definitely had two bouts with sleet here. Raining now finally... but started out as sleet, daughter also called me driving in Pensacola where it was also sleeting. Watched it bounce off my deck as well as hit the tin roof on my shed. Pretty cool 36.9 here now down from 40 just over an hour or so ago

Many reports of sleet in Pensacola

Evaporational cooling due to the very dry air, but once that column of air saturates up it will warm up and go to liquid precipitation.

Wow, I hope the trees in your are can handle another 1-2 hrs of moderate precipitation.

Temps dropped fairly quick here just east of Destin just at the onset on the precip. Went from 44F to 39F and I'm just a mile from the beach.

Just five miles north of me the forecast is 80% mixed with sleet after midnight. Live just south of Baton Rouge.

Question is where is this coming from?. Radar clearly shows the back edge already east of Baton Rouge with nothing behind. Skies already breaking a little bit.

Forecast has not clearly been updated. They need to update it because precipitation has moved out of your quicker than what some models showed earlier today which they were going by.

Will the wintry weather that is forecast for here in Northern Coastal South Carolina starting early Monday AM come from the precipitation that is currently moving west to east across the deep South or will it be generated as the low pressure sysytem works it's way off shore up the coast?
