Part of the WSW excerpt for Austin & San Antonio
MAIN IMPACT...LIGHT FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET MAY ACCUMULATE ON
ROAD SURFACES...IN ADDITION TO BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES. AREAS
ALONG AND NORTH OF A LINE FROM DEL RIO TO HONDO TO SELMA TO
PFLUGERVILLE CAN EXPECT ICING TO DEVELOP ON MANY SOLID ROAD
SURFACES...WHILE AREAS TO THE SOUTH AND EAST ARE EXPECTED TO SEE
ONLY LIGHT ICING ON ELEVATED SURFACES SUCH AS BRIDGES AND
OVERPASSES. TOTAL ICE ACCUMULATIONS NORTH OF THE ESCARPMENT ARE
EXPECTED TO AVERAGE BETWEEN 1/10 AND 1/4 INCH. HOWEVER...BANDS
OF SLEET COULD SUPPORT SLIGHTLY HIGHER ACCUMULATIONS UP TO 1/2
INCH.

* OTHER IMPACTS...THE COLD TEMPERATURES AND EXPECTED ICE
ACCUMULATIONS COULD PREVENT TEMPERATURES FROM REACHING ABOVE
FREEZING
UNTIL LATE SATURDAY EVENING. IMPROVING CONDITIONS ARE
POSSIBLE BY SATURDAY AFTERNOON OVER AREAS ALONG AND SOUTH OF
HIGHWAY 90 AND ALONG AND EAST OF I-35.

The temp here dropped to 32 while it was raining, now that it has stopped for the moment the temp is up to 34.

I'm just north of you in Hutto. Same thing happened here. Looks like with dew points in the low to mid 20s wet bulbing will really get going once the precip moves in from the southwest.

Yeah we rose 2 degrees too, that could happen when precip stops. I was referring to the dew points

Here at Hudson Bend, the temp has risen from 33.5 to 35.0 since the precip ended a while ago. Dewpoint however has slid from 29 to 23. I'd say that leaves plenty of room to make it to freezing when the precip gets going again.

Well, well, well ... a Winter Storm Warning now for the Austin metro area. Why am I not surprised.

I saw this coming as a few others here did.

Back up to 34 degrees at the moment. Large mass on precip though approaching from the southwest.

Quite a bit of yellow colors in that precip (looking at KVUE radar), anyone want to speculate there may be more moisture than the weather service anticipated?

As with what others have posted the temperature has risen. It's gone up to 35 at my place. It never did get to freezing here earlier when other areas were. The dew point is now at 27°

Our sensor is under an eve on second story, but is exposed to winds. It shows 34.9 degrees with dewpoint of 23.6. Dewpoint has lowered. Cold enough on the ground for ice on exposed surfaces (our trampoline).

Should be some efficient wet bulbing of this air mass if the precip gets going IMO.

It looks like the first wave is going to miss most of Austin to the west.

Precipitation is finally beginning to increase and expand in area, getting some light sprinkles here now. Will be watching what the temps will do.

THROUGH 7 AM...NUMEROUS RAIN AND FREEZING RAIN SHOWERS...SOME
MIXED WITH SLEET...WILL MOVE NORTHEAST AT 25 MPH ACROSS SOUTH
CENTRAL TEXAS AND THE HILL COUNTRY. SEVERAL REPORTS OF ICE
ACCUMULATIONS ON ELEVATED SURFACES HAVE BEEN REPORTED. FREEZING
TEMPERATURES HAVE BECOME MORE WIDESPREAD ACROSS THE HILL COUNTRY.
AS A RESULT...GROUND AREAS WILL START TO BECOME ICY AND HAZARDOUS.
TOTAL ICE ACCUMULATIONS WILL AVERAGE BETWEEN ONE TENTH AND ONE
QUARTER OF AN INCH BUT AN ISOLATED ONE HALF INCH AMOUNT COULD BE
POSSIBLE FOR THE HIGHER HILL COUNTRY. THIS WOULD CAUSE SIGNIFICANT
IMPACTS AND HIGH CAUTION IS URGED WHEN TRAVELING.
