Rather impressive 2 week cold spell in DFW. Of the last 14 days only one day was above normal and that was only by 1 degree. During that 2 week period we averaged 9 degrees below normal . From Jan 7 thru the 10th ( The coldest stretch) we averaged 14 degrees below normal. What's crazy is during that cold stretch we received 1.71 inches of rain and no appreicable winter weather :double: But the rain was beneficial

I will be keeping an eye on this. It would be our luck that we miss on the events we see far out and then catch a surprise to make up for it. Though it does not currently appear that it would be anything more than flurries if we get very lucky.

So true about the events far out! Flurries are better than nothing, however.

NWS has a 20% chance of FR in their pinpoint forecast for Tarrant County and points northward for tomorrow night.

We all want snow. But if we don't get any, maybe all this cold weather will at least kill some overwintering fire ants. Really don't like those things.

NWS has my area in Northern Wichita Co. in a 20% chance of a winter mix for Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. I guess all we can do is wait and watch.

There was online chatter this weekend from a couple of pro mets who specialize in medium to long range forecasting indicating a significant pattern change late month. In fact, Michael Ventrice from WSI tweeted that the projected MJO indices were unparalleled in terms of an analog. In other words, they haven't seen this type/strength of MJO in 50 years or more. The MJO is progged to be very strong and would usher in very cold air for the eastern two-thirds of the CONUS. We shall see.

I would hate that ... you know me ... I love warm weather.

Yes the MJO is really strong (currently in the warm phase for the US) at this time but almost ALL models project it to crater over the next few days....so I'm not sure where WSI is getting their projections ??

You can check it out yourself at their Twitter handle (@WSI_Energy). What I neglected to mention was that the current ENSO state and current MJO was unparalleled. The inference is what goes up this high must come down pretty hard (i.e. major cold blast coming in 2 weeks).

Those things will survive direct nuclear attacks.

I just got back to Texas from the 2015 ATA Show (Archery Trade Show) in Indianapolis. Left on Saturday evening before yesterday's ice storm event began there.

With temperatures as low as negative eight degrees (it actually went below zero two of the three nights I was there) and with a couple of inches of snow still on the ground, Indy was a bicycle riders paradise!!! :cold: :froze:

Wxman57 and his heat loving counterpart Portastorm would have loved to have taken their heat-cycles out on the central Indiana area's frozen rivers, lakes and ponds.

Not like this weekend, but it's just plain COLD and raw out there. :cold: :jacket: 43 degrees at 3PM at Camp Mabry. Great for soup/gumbo/hot chocolate!

Yeah. 40 with 85% humidity. Miserable.

As much as I wish this to be true I just don't believe it. Sounds more of the same about how the winter was supposed to be and always 2-3 weeks away. Might happen for a day or two like this last system which only lasted one measly day and night for us .

Very interesting...temp 37, dp 33. Light mist falling. HRRR is most intriguing, too.

Im no professional met at all, but ill stick my neck out. I think we will have one of those EPIC HP's come down sometime the rest of this winter where temps truly rival the record breaking cold temps. Like Ntx says, the -EPO keeps loading up and its going to pair up with the -AO and coming crashing down into the Southern Plains. The 18Z has a 1056 HP near Barrow Alaska With a strong -EPO signal.
