Correct me if im wrong, but according to the satellite, the Low that is crossing the state tonight is what is pulling all of this moisture up into the state. There looks as if there is plenty of moisture still back there too. The STJ always provides some surprises

I know! CHILLY "Pea Soup" drizzle. Bummer.

So happy for all the north Texas folks! :cold: :jacket: :froze: :) We had our sleet yesterday. Well, I didn't, but some of us did.

We are currently getting heavy sleet in Hooks (Texarkana). It is starting to gather on grassy spots.

Third time this winter DFW airport has recorded snow, and it likely won't be the last. Winter of can do!

I hope that you are all satisfied up there now. You've had your winter, now it's time to move on to spring and summer. Unfortunately, the coastal water temps are so cold now that it's going to make for a miserable spring. Any onshore flow will result in clouds, drizzle and fog vs. warm sunshine.

In secret I've been looking for signs of a flip to warm for you wxman57, however euro weeklies and cfsv2/ensembles says no end in sight, if anything it may get worse. Maybe march it can cool up from cold? :cold:

803 AM CST TUE JAN 15 2013

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON CST TODAY...

* TIMING...AREAS OF SNOW AND SLEET OVER GREENVILLE...PARIS AND
SULPHUR SPRINGS WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE NORTHEAST WHILE
DIMINISHING IN INTENSITY THROUGH 9 AM. MEANWHILE LIGHT DRIZZLE
HAS DEVELOPED OVER MUCH OF THE REMAINDER OF THE ADVISORY AREA
AND THIS IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE THROUGH 11 AM OR NOON CST. WITH
TEMPERATURES REMAINING BELOW FREEZING FOR THESE AREAS...FREEZING
DRIZZLE IS LIKELY.

* MAIN IMPACT...WHILE MOST ACCUMULATING SNOW AND SLEET HAS COME TO
AN END OVER THE ADVISORY AREA...IT HAS LEFT ELEVATED BRIDGES AND
OVERPASSES SLICK AND IMPASSABLE IN SOME LOCATIONS. FREEZING
DRIZZLE IS EXPECTED TO REDEVELOP OVER THE ENTIRE ADVISORY AREA
FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE MORNING HOURS. LIGHT FREEZING DRIZZLE
WILL ONLY EXACERBATE ICY ROAD CONDITIONS ON BRIDGES AND
OVERPASSES...MAKING TRAVEL ON THESE SURFACES EXTREMELY
HAZARDOUS.

* AMOUNTS...SNOW AND SLEET ACCUMULATIONS OF ONE QUARTER TO ONE
INCH HAVE ALREADY BEEN REPORTED ACROSS THE ENTIRE ADVISORY AREA.
LIGHT FREEZING DRIZZLE IS EXPECTED TO CAUSE AN ADDITIONAL LIGHT
COATING OF ICE ON ELEVATED ROADWAYS...INCLUDING BRIDGES AND
OVERPASSES.

What a mess driving my 3rd grader to school. Roads were slippery. The ISD should've delayed for 2 hours like many others had done.

Pic of our new house, still under construction.

Can we get an update on the next's week potential Arctic outbreak?

Looks like there may be more moisture to work with than what the models are showing:

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION...UPDATED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORT WORTH TX
825 AM CST TUE JAN 15 2013

.UPDATE...
LATEST ISENTROPIC PLOTS FROM THE RAP CONTINUE TO SHOW WEAK UPGLIDE
THROUGH 700 MB PERSISTING FOR MOST OF THE MORNING AND EARLY
AFTERNOON. FORECAST SOUNDINGS DEPICT DRYING IN THE UPPER LEVELS OF
THE ATMOSPHERE AND THIS WEAK LIFT WOULD BE SUPPORTIVE OF DRIZZLE.
STARTING TO SEE LIGHT RETURNS WEST OF INTERSTATE 35...BUT NOTHING
HAS BEEN REPORTED YET AT ANY OF THE AREA OBSERVATION SITES. NOT
MUCH PRECIP FELL IN THESE LOCATIONS AND AS THIS WEAK LIFT IN THE
LOWEST ATMOSPHERE SHIFTS EAST...DRIZZLE IS LIKELY TO FORM ACROSS
THE AREA WHICH PICKED UP OVERNIGHT PRECIP. LATEST RAP ALSO KEEPS
TEMPERATURES BELOW FREEZING UNTIL NOON OR 1 PM...AND WE EXTENDED
THE ADVISORY UNTIL NOON. THE FREEZING DRIZZLE WOULD BE PROBLEMATIC
AS THIS WOULD FALL ON TOP OF THE SLEET/SNOW AND MAKE THE AREA
BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES EVEN MORE HAZARDOUS.

Current model guidance indicates next week will not be as cold as this week. Models backed off on any Arctic air intrusion several days ago.

Looking at today's 12z NAM, if this system can find some moisture, snow may develop across central Texas. On this computer model image, areas within the blue dotted lines will be cold enough for snow tomorrow if moisture is available. Hopefully central Texas residents get to wake up to a nice surprise tomorrow morning! SA and Austin are overdue for a nice surprise snow event!

I quoted me so we could see the morning discussion from Austin...so FW is now saying moisture? This pattern has been so unexpectedly shocking to our winter meteorology loving souls! But what euro run are they referring to? I think it may be time for a pre-event presser from Portastorm!!!

There is.... NO WAY this low will cross the state dry. I just dont see it. Again, read the sig. Im no professional met. I have a finance degree and am just a weather nut that follows the weather but come on now. No chance. I have never seen it happen. Maybe im wrong and some of you can enlighten me, but even within the last 5 years we have had a couple of cold core lows bring 'plenty' of snow for us here in houston alone.

Just look at today. I believe the same Low is the one pulling the moisture up from the STJ.
