Well it appears the cattle prod we needed to get things interesting around here didn't materialize....MJO was a complete dud as it headed around into Phase 8, which typically correlates to an extremely active winter pattern for the southern plains. The end of 2017 appears heading to be quite uneventful - zonal flow and Pacific Jet crashing into the Pacific NW, NO BUENO!!! :bored: See you all in a couple of weeks, here's to a more active start to 2018 :Partytime:

Much of the cold air is across the Midwest and Eastern U.S.

PNA in large part has remained positive since late November, thus the cold air has largely been in the eastern third of the US. No reason to deviate from that now. The ghosts of the Nino past PNA haunts us still.

Merry Christmas to all of you and to a better 2018!

Plenty of cold air around...it appears it's going to have to originate from the Tropics/off Baja for that to happen!

Merry Christmas to all of you. It has been a wild ride for me these past 11 years. The High Pressure Ridge of Death that ate Tropical Storm Don in 2011and drought. The massive hurricane Harvey and flooding it brought in 2017..oh yeah the December 2017 snow in the Houston area. Wow

It sure has been wild around here over the past several years.

For me, I already received my Christmas weather gift in the form of seeing 2 inches of snow a few weeks ago. It's a memory I will never forget!

12Z GFS Ensembles completely abandoned any idea of Texas ice/snow over the next 10 days...considering how worthless they've been, maybe that's a good sign ???

Temps are sub 35 west of Fort Worth with heavy rain moving in so watching temps closely, they should stay just above freezing since it is during the day. Just to be safe watch for ice on bridges today north of I-20 in western North Texas.

Core of cold stays to the north of Texas on latest Euro. Looks like it slides east into the Eastern US.

I'm very disappointed about the lack of winter precipitation recently up in DFW. Nothing I want more now.

Wow... The combo of 00z & 12z models...

The only bright spot that I see is that the Euro Weeklies keep Texas in the avg to above avg rainfall category.

Was going to say that the radar precip depiction shows snow from Gainesville to points west. Was wondering if this was verifying or not!
