Not sure, storms in Texas never really had "the look". We did have some heavy rain in a good thunderstorm earlier this afternoon. But nothing severe around here or really anywhere in Texas. All north and east.

Maybe the models aren’t correctly handling the progression of the MJO? Pretty sure that happens a lot.

Yeah even up here where I had a tornado watch I saw like one lightning strike  then it had tornado warnings about an hour east. Had one good downpour for a few minutes and that was it

Cali Sierra snowfall is even crazier….models going to 400 plus inches of snow over next 2 weeks. On top of the already record snow base they have. Something truly historic is happening out there right now…

It’s honestly amazing what’s going on out there in Cali. I can’t recall a time they’ve had this amount of QPF especially day after day after day of it like this.

Aleutian low extended jet. All the ensemble analogs are the mild, wet big El Nino years, 82-83, 91-92, 97-98 etc with the current npac.

Meanwhile, we can all enjoy well above-normal temperatures for the next couple of weeks. Yesterday's low was 71 in Houston. Great winter weather! :firedevil:

That’s easy for you to say when you don’t have a full time job outside disgustingly sweating your ass off from high DP’s.

Thankfully for me I no longer have a job like that but did for several years and it sucks!

I worked for a remodeling company in Ft. Worth during the summers of 1977-1980. Lots and lots of preparing houses for painting and some roofing. I would work 7 days a week 9-12 hours a day all summer to pay for my tuition. Back then, my tuition cost about $180/semester ($10 per semester hour). I paid $100/mo for a room inside a home in Bryan, TX. Working 7 days a week, I could make that $180 in a single week back then. Loved the heat. No, I don't work outside any longer, but I do enjoy 3-5 hour bike rides in the summer. Nothing like finishing a ride with salt crusted on your face. I guess it helps growing up in south Louisiana. Heat, humidity, and mosquitoes never bothered me. I think that the ideal temperature for outdoor activities (biking) is about 85F. Warm enough that I can wear a short-sleeve jersey and not feel cool.

Latest Long Range Ensembles continue to look like trash....++EPO, Pacific Air flood, and Greenland Block gone with no signs of reversing anytime soon.

Amazing how Januarys are now becoming very non-eventful in the southern plains

Well it’s easier to handle at a younger age as well. I grew up in El Campo and have lived in southeast Texas my whole life and still don’t like the sweating and humidity. 70’s & 80’s are fine with me as long as the DP is comfortable.

True, I suppose. I'm only 65 now, so maybe the heat will bother me when I'm not so young. Perhaps you need to move to Minnesota? ;-)

Nothing more depressing than a 500 mb forecast map like this in the Heart of Winter….this is really ugly, great for Western US drought but terrible look for the southern plains winter!
