Snow pack helped too i think. Def delivered. The HP was still building all the way down into Texas. Not something you always see.
GFS seeing 29 tomorrow morning with a 14 dewpoint, same MSLP and less winds..... Doubt it. I see a bust coming.

I called for 25 figuring it would not get to the modeled lows, but it did and it was 21 when I got up this morning close to Hooks airport/Tomball.

Euro has a big southern plains storm next weekend with DFW heavy rain in the 30s. Just west crippling ice storm and Snow in Oklahoma. GFS is a little warmer and raining. More model watching this week as that will be a big cutoff ULL! Before that, a nice little warm up

El Nino-like pattern showing up for late Jan and early Feb. The NE NA higher heights will keep things interesting at times between warm ups until then, at the very least we will get plenty of rain with the Pacific train. We may see another big -EPO before winter is over.

Got down to 21.4 at the PWC but there were some 13 degree readings in rural parts of NW Travis County. Most of the county was upper teens to 20. Still, coldest morning since February 2011.
Dry cold. Yay.

I hear ya Porta. Dry cold is useless to me.
We still have time to get lucky though. We are just entering our prime time season for frozen precip. Have about 50 days left. Don't give up hope yet!

Re: Texas Winter 2016-2017
It was a chilly 19F here this morning. It was about 5-degrees colder than advertised across most of SE Texas. Even though we prepped for a pretty decent freeze, this was a doozy and caught the gardening community off-guard. We were not expecting teens this far south. Lots of zone 9 and borderline zone 8 plants got zapped this morning in our region. Tough day for the gardening community.

Re: Texas Winter 2016-2017
That's probably another arctic front next weekend on 12z GFS. GFS is progressive with the shortwave than the Euro. But I've noticed the trends on the models is more southeast/Atlantic ridging and the big arctic high has gradually been trending further south in the plains than sliding east in previous runs.

Ntxwx, do u think this Elniño esque pattern will limit any opportunity for winter storm chances late Jan-early Feb? It seems like elniño esque starting now out west lol. I know mjo was supposed to go around to phase 8-2 but perhaps they ain't good for us? Just wondering man

20f-23.2f in my neighborhood of Spring Shadows in W Houston for lows this am. Like Jason said, about 5 degrees lower than expected anywhere in this area. Don't see a big reason we won't do that tomorrow morning either unless we start getting a flow off the GOM earlier than expected.

It should increase the chances for storms. Cold is another beast that we won't see until the period gets closer.

Re: Texas Winter 2016-2017

Neither the 12z GFS (or 0z for that matter) nor the 12z CMC (a model always cold biased) show any freezing precip in Texas next weekend outside of a sliver of the Panhandle.
There is some interesting spread within the 0z Euro ensemble members to suggest that the aforementioned model scenarios may be too warm. I've not looked over the GEFS separate members yet. We shall see.
Where is my pal orangeblood? He's always good for a little wintry wx hope.

So every weather observation station in Texas - including Brownsville- was below freezing this morning?
That doesn't happen very often.
