When I went to bed weather.com had freezing rain for BTR from 2pm - 4am or so. Now it has taken all that and changed it to a cold cold rain with a small chance of freezing precip from now until about 12 or so, until it gets above freezing. I don't see it happening. Unless temps bust by 2 degrees or so, just a cold rain. However, temps can easily be off by that little of an amount. We shall see!

Posting from across Mobile Bay near Point Clear, AL...Cold as the dickens but no rain yet. We did have sleet yesterday around 3:30pm but just enough to get my daughters excited and thinking maybe there would be snow and no school for thurs. LOL The wind has picked up a bit here and the temps feel colder but I do not think it has dropped. I think we are getting more cloud cover because it has darken up a bit.

Just watched the weekly planner on TWC and they showed snow very far south for Tues and again on Thurs of next week. Maybe we have another chance at snow if we miss out on this current system. :cold:

If we get nothing but rain today then let's go ahead and call dibs on next weeks system. Our turn!

I can see a few, and I mean a very few, sleet pellets on my trampoline. Ok, I saw something frozen. I guess this wont be a COMPLETE waste.

Morning B. We got some light freezing rain earlier this morning. There is very light glaze on our patio table and my trucks. Can see small icicles on my neighbors shed. That is about it and dont expect much more. Just going to be a wet nasty 36 hrs. Hopefully they are wrong about the rain lasting through tomorrow night and will end sooner. For those in Houston and surrounding areas enjoy the snow. At least you get something from the cold. :grrr:

As far as next weeks system goes think the same way as the current one. Will believe it when I see it. Don't think it will be near as cold as showing right now and definitely don't expect to get accumulating snows. Maybe some sleet and freezing rain if we get the moisture.

Drizzling at my house now, temps is about 31 so could get a little glaze but depends if this lasts more than 2 minutes. Mixed with sleet but mostly liquid.

Thats probably all we'll get. I am just amazed at how so many schools and businesses are shut down today. I remember when I was in middle and high school and we had class with snow falling although the times were few and far and hurricanes making landfall. We had school the day Andrew was making its way to the coast. Nowadays if it rains to hard or the sun is shining to bright and its hot they shut down school. Just don't get it. Hardly any rain on radar and really don't think it will fill in until later this afternoon. By then temps will be above freezing but yet state and local gov't offices are closed.

Yeah, the closures were probably not needed but I can't say I blame them. The forecast was simply too close to call and better safe than sorry. If they are predicting a cold rain and 33 degrees, who is to say it wont be 32? Heck, this still could turn into a surprise. I feel pretty sure the heavier precip will occur when temps are above freezing but you can't rule out the slim chance that they may surprise us and get to 32. EBR schools and LSU stayed open, though. I gave myself a snow day and skipped, it's much too cold to walk around campus today!

Schools and businesses are open here..... and I think they're going to get caught with their pants down if they don't get those buses running soon.

Does freezing rain appear on the radar as green since it falls as rain? Or does it appear as the pink? I am confused if pink means something other than just rain is falling, such as sleet or a mix of sleet/snow/rain, or if pink also means freezing rain.

Bella, Lucedale is far enough north of the coast that accumulating snow is not completely out of the question. South of I-10, the only snow storms that occur are those that show up on the long range models.

My thermometer has been sitting on 29 all morning, and I'm just now seeing my first light precipitation. It appears to be light rain, but since I already have ice on on my garbage can lid, I would assume this would freeze also. Brrrrrrr! :cold:
