Re: Texas Winter 2021-2022
It's looking like a lot of heavy freezing rain and sleet in the D-FW area starting late Wednesday evening and ending with light snow around noon-ish on Thursday. Don't plan on driving anywhere up there on Thursday. Could be a lot of power outages if this plays out as models are indicating. Power lines and trees do not like freezing rain. Sleet isn't a problem for power lines, if that's the bulk of the precip. Sleet is a problem for travel, though.

Naturally EPS increases wintry precip alongside QPF now that the Euro has flipped.
I'd imagine we will continue to see upticks with qpf across the board in the coming days. So much energy injected from the upper jet.

Any insight as to what we can expect up her in Wichita Falls would be greatly appreciated. Assuming of course this plays out the way it’s looking now. Thanks in advance.

Keeping the family aware since they are still in DFW. Ice/snow event looks more probable each day.

Re: Texas Winter 2021-2022
Among other preparations, I’m keeping close eye on the temperatures but just given the nature of ice I may proactively deffoliate my Mexican fan palms tomorrow and just put some Christmas lights around the heart. My windmill palm should be fine although the ice make burn those palms.
I’ve discovered that my Mexican Fan palms defoliate under 21. The one that is a little smaller already lost them all at 19 a couple weeks ago. Surprisingly the larger one only lost a few. Being coated in ice causes the to freeze and die then defoliate anyway so I make it over with when it’s warm and then I can protect the tree itself better.
You should have seen my getup for them last year to protect the entire trees for -2! It worked however when all the others in my neighborhood are dead.
Just keep those types of plants in mind…

Yeah I don’t think it’s currently looking that great for us southeast TX folk right now.

Still several days out so expect to see some fluctuations. Cold will probably be deeper and surface temps will likely be colder than advertised by some of the modeling.

Re: Texas Winter 2021-2022
I will say to the people down south how many times have we seen the globals too warm... It definitely wouldn't surprise me if the frozen precip gets further south than expected right now
Arctic air is always faster than the models predict too. Wait and see what the NAM shows

Actually everything does look great, but the surface output.
If all else holds, I’ll definitely see some freezing rain and sleet.
That energy detaches and we will see a hefty storm too

While we wait for the winter weather event, Monday continues to look active for parts of South Central and East TX (mainly east of I-35). Could see some much-needed rain and a few strong storms (especially across Houston metro).

The models have trended more south and southwest with Mondays system. Maybe more towards Victoria and Rockport now.

I mentioned that a few days ago. It seems like a lot of big winter wx systems over the years have had sneaky little svr wx events that no one tracked.

Depends on the model but I think the WPC outlook handles that system well. CMC probably the outlier (further south) but GFS and Euro on track
