You've done a sorry job Screamer of importing your weather down this way. That's all I have to say about that!

Am ever so curious was it my cold front's fault or was it because you've got that cockroach ridge over you again?

Thank you.

MJO signal looks weak, and then it may be only an indicator of increasing precip chances down south not cold weather. I see a lot of biking in my future over the next 2 weeks. I'm off to release more butterflies in my back yard...

Yes, please release more butterflies and push the earth closer to the sun too. Make it so that I can get 20ºC+ temperatures up here during the winter.

wxman57 wrote:100 degrees in January, now there's an idea! I saw that Corpus Christi hit a record 90 degrees yesterday. The article I saw showed people at the beach enjoying the warm weather. Key word - enjoying. I'll bet that no one is on the beach there today enjoying the mid 60s temps and 30+ mph northwest winds, nor did I notice any coverage of people in the Midwest and Northeast U.S. enjoying the recent bitter cold. People hate cold weather - they enjoy warm weather. :grrr:

Exactly, that's what I keep saying.

There we are  . Bright Lord of Summer is here to cheer everyone up. So Cacti, how were the 80s and 90s down there? :layout:

Do your co-workers know what the GFS model is?

Hmm what did PWC do to bribe the Euro? I see some omega ridging on the west coast like the GFS, got to be the dirty work of some here

Ladies and gentlemen, I bring you a snow depth map from the 6z GFS for Feb. 13th. The Grey Goose-swilling mets from the PWC were up all night long to bring you some vodka cold from the Land of Saskatchewan Screamer mixed with some precipitation. Ntxw and his Metroplex friends will be able to build igloos with this event!

View, enjoy, talk amongst yourselves. And did someone say winter was over?! Heh.

Sweet! Didn't we hear that the Houston area would not see freezing temps the remainder of winter?!

Get ready because the middle to latter half of February looks to be rockin' for many of us!

It was Bush airport that I said would probably remain above freezing for February. I forecast 34 for the February low at IAH. It appears to have reached 35 this morning, possibly 34 between obs.

That's why I said "wish you had taken my bet". And yes it did hit 34F at IAH between the obs. Porta has already set things in motion for another freeze here in mid Feb.

06z GFS is continuing the trend of false hope.

I don't need a foot of snow (though that would be nice!). A couple inches so that my bet with wxman57 works out is fine. The models are trending away from zonal flow, winter still has one last gasp left! Never bet against February in Texas for cold/snow. It is the golden month.

And though that frame is 200-300 hours, the system is one to watch. It will be in the gulf of Alaska here in the coming days. All models do have it, just timing/placement differences.

Well to be honest, the 12z GFS isn't nearly as sexy as the 6z run was. But nonetheless it shows a pattern change around 10 days out with colder air pouring south into Texas (colder than the near zonal flow we'll see in the next week) and an active southern stream.

The ingredients look to be in place the second week of February and we at the PWC will be working hard to keep nudging Earth away from ol' Sol and bring on some wintry "fun" for everyone in Texas! 8-)

It's high latitude blocking I think. All your cold air is funneled to the states while Canada doesn't really do much under that ridge, that is if the models are correct.
