I passed the mountain late morning on Saturday which called Coquihulla in British Columbia. This area got about a foot of snow while i was there. The road was covered with about 6 inches of snow on the left lane. Most cars had to go to the right side to keep running. The condition for this area was poor. It was f..king cool.

Invisible...What was the elevation you were at. That is a lot of snow!
In Covington, we already have moderate cold rain falling from the cold front that is approaching. This is well ahead of schedule. Right now the conditions are moderate rain with 41 degrees. This rain is so cold that the frogs aren't even croaking tonight. We are going backward! Our total rain in Covington since it began on Saturday is now 2.85 inches, with a monthly total of 3.85. The places that have been rain shadowed so far will not be tomorrow!
I am betting when this rain, that just got here, hits the mountains they are going to be in near whiteout conditions. Welcome to spring!

snow_wizzard the elevation is only approx 1240m but it can get really terrible up there. A tour bus flipped on its way from Vancouver BC on its way to Whistler. there was also alot of accidents on the Merrit to the Okanagan Valley strech of the connector. very low visability and blowing snow. there were travel warnings for the whole connector. it got prettty messy up their. i was debating on traveling on sat but after looking on the web cam i decided not to!!! good thing i didnt.
snow conditions are very good right now. i have 10 new cm = 4 inches and a base at the ski hill of 227 cm = 7.5 feet. so we are doing really good. i will probibly be snow boadind well into April and maybe May. that would be nice!

Here`s part of tonights AFD from Seattle NWS....
THE FRONT WILL ZIP ACROSS THE AREA DURING THE PRE-DAWN HOURS WITH WINDS KICKING UP MANY LOCATIONS WEST OF THE CASCADES. AS WHOLE SYSTEM SHIFT FURTHER INLAND EARLY TUE...FAIRLY STRONG SW TO W GRADIENT SETS UP WITH DECENT WLY MID LEVEL FLOW FOR A WINDY DAY MOST OF THE REGION. THIS WILL ALSO BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN UNSTABLE AIRMASS FOR PLENTY OF SHOWERS AND SOME THUNDERSTORMS. WITH THE LOW FREEZING LEVELS WILL HAVE SOME SMALL HAIL AROUND AGAIN IN THE HEAVIER SHOWERS.

The 2 hour break from the rain is over.
Raining moderately here with .90 for the day now. Hard to keep the systems apart.
Bold prediction... my guess is that some places in the lowlands will see some wet snow and/or sleet in a very well-defined PSCZ tomorrow. The convergence pattern tomorrow looks very similar to the system that started this dramatic pattern change on March 16th.
This will probably favor places like Snoqualmie and North Bend again but even places near the King/Snohomish line could see some snowflakes.
Needless to say... the next 24 hours should be incredible for local mountains!!

I think you may be right TT! It looks like some very cold showers tomorrow.
This pattern change is nothing short of majestic! I can never recall such an amazing and total change so late in the season before. We have litterally gone from one of the lowest snowfall winters ever recorded in the mountains, to the same pattern that gave Mount Baker the world record snowfall in 1999! It does not get any more impressive than that.
From where we sit right now, it looks like a very cool spring and perhaps summer. The two big analog years to the pattern we are now in are 1953 and 1999. Both of the years had very cool periods that went on for months. In both cases record lows followed the very active weather that brought lots of late season snowfall to the mountains. The months of April, May, and June were all EXCEPTIONALLY cool on both of those years. It will be interesting to see if history repeats itself!

I am now officially amazed! We ended up with another 0.41 inch of rain today, which puts us just shy of 4 inches for the month. These fronts are so close together it is almost impossible to tell them apart!
One very interesting aspect to the rain tonight is the fact the temperature is not all that far above where a few flakes could mix in. Right now in Covington we have 40 degrees with moderate rain. I noramlly see snow mix in at about 38 here. That light east wind always makes it colder here, when it comes with precip! There is little doubt, with this same situation in the winter, it would be snowing right now. You have got to love the fact the air mass will be about 3C colder tomorrow night!

Well, it certainly is not a full-blow wind storm, but at least we will get some gusty winds throughout the day. It appears tha on the Coast and in the Puget Sound area, gusts will be around 35mph while in the Northern Interior, they will be a bit stronger at around 40mph.
Then you add the possibility of heavy rain, hail, sleet/wet snow, and thunderstorms, you get a very active weather day in the Pacific Northwest.

Currently at 6:24 AM, we have Cloudy skies and a temperature of 39 F (after a low of 38 F). Rain looks to be heading our way from the Kitsap Peninsula, so we should be seeing some moderately heavy rain within the next hour or so.
Winds are relatively calm here right now, right around 3mph, gusting to 13mph, but I am sure they will kick up later this morning into this afternoon.

Wow! It is near whiteout conditions at Snoqualmie and White passes right now! They are getting slammed. The song Walking in a Winter Wonderland is coming to mind.

Aveosmth...It looks like West Seattle will be in the rainshadow from the Olympics today. It is certainly possible that a rogue shower could get them though.
For much of the interior, it is another unseasonably cold day today. Right now it is only 45 in Covington, with gloomy skies and light rain at times.
The analogs today are incredible! 1950, 1953, 1955, 1984, 1988, and 1999. These are all years that featured a lot of cold weather, and big winters the next time around! Even the winter of 1999 - 2000 was one that should have been good. That one was a heartbreaker, but still a good analog in my opinion.

Definally in the rain shadow today! No rain here yet, but did recieve a little bit during the over night hours. Now from looking at current radar loop weathertap and Seattle NWS, it appears that a heavy band of precip is coming my way from the upper Kitsap area. will see if holds togeather. Also, looks like there has been some lightning strinkes dwon in the Portland OR, area....as well as just little south of Salem. -- Andy
