Just checked the NWS statement out of Jackson, MS and they are already reporting up to 3 inches of snow already on the ground in NW Mississippi around the ARKLAMISS Delta region.

They probaby will get at least an additional couple more inches in those areas before the snow ends later tonight in that region.

This morning NWS took the snow our of our forecast and said we had a chance of rain mixed with sleet. Now they changed it again:

Tonight: Rain, possibly mixed with snow and sleet before 3am, then a slight chance of snow. Low around 30. North wind between 10 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

I wish that last sentence said something about accumulation but that is a very long shot. I will take anything in the form of snow. Maybe I will stay up if the precip doesn't get out of here too quickly. I still don't see how we can get anything unless more moisture comes later. I did notice Beaumont had another round of precip after I thought everything had moved out so maybe that was the Low forming and kicking some back that way? Fingers crossed for everyone!

It is basically a race between how fast the colder air can filter into the Baton Rouge area and when the precipitation ends later this evening. There is a slim chance you may see light snow/flurries right on the very tail end just as the precipitation exits that area, probably around midnight CST. It will be a close call for you .

Dang it, I dont know if I should go west, north or stay put. The heavy band in Jackson MS is in line with Montgomery which is South of me.

I'm staying put and will just watch for radar trends to see if there's anything obvious. No sense moving around now when forecast amounts are pretty uniform. Not much difference in 2 vs. 3 inches unless we get some higher totals than that.

Yeah, Brent, it is looking rather good for you to see a significant snow accumulation later tonight. That precip shield over Northern and NW MS is very impressive. Snowfall totals already around 3 inches in some of those areas of NW MS and it appears to be holding together pretty good as it works its way into AL later this evening.

Take some good pics for us! 8-)

It looks to be cooling off a lot faster too. Snow is already falling 30 miles south of Jackson so we might get lucky down in Hattiesburg.

Down to 42 in Baton Rouge. I just don't know if we will have any precip around once temps get to where they need to be, assuming they ever do.

Is this all the precip Baton Rouge can expect or will more move through later? NWS says 90% tonight so it would be a huge bust if it is all said and done by 5pm. I'm hoping the Low is getting cranking and will send some more our way...hoping...

The Jackson airport is reporting snow and sleet at 34... they dropped nearly 15 degrees when the precip started as rain and quickly changed over.

Ground turning white NW of Birmingham... ahead of schedule

This may be the last chance for the deep South this winter. Good luck to everybody tonight. Who knows, maybe a flake will even fall around here somewhere. Take pictures.

Doesn't look good for Hattiesburg right now. The 32 degree line seem to be moving north. The temperature here is still 53 degrees and falling slowly!
