I was saying that because the 15 day runs have warm temperatures. Of course there can still be a winter storm in the deep south.

I hope next winter we have an active southern jet, really cold air plunging south and most importantly, a -NAO! We had the -NAO all winter until the really cold air began plummeting south. Does a -NAO tend to hold up the cold air or was that just coincidence? We still had cold but not the big cold blasts we saw the last few weeks when it went positive.

May... when it's 90 everyday.

as for winter being over, I'm skeptical. March can be a very extreme month here for severe weather and winter weather and that includes the only blizzard on record here. We've also had a snowstorm the past 2 Marchs(March 1, 2009 and March 2, 2010).

Yeah, I would not yet close the book on Old Man Winter. I think there is still a decent chance that we will see one more parting shot from Old Winter within the next 2-3 weeks. As Brent astutely mentioned earlier, we have seen several instances of seeing cold spells going into March. One of the most impressive and famous systems in weather history happened in March '93, the superstorm.
It took most of this season for the AO to finally go into a positive phase. So, at least for now, we will see a much needed warm-up. However, do not be surprised to see the extremes we often get in March, from tornadoes and severe thunderstorms to late season freezes and snow for areas of the Deep South.

One more question, where do you go to find the official low for your area? I can go to weather.com and such but I think they only show the forecast low for the upcoming night. How do I find out how low it got the night before? I can catch it on the news but I don't tend to be in front of a TV then.

I've lived in the south far too long to believe winter is over! Some of our biggest snow storms have occurred in March.
We might be running simultaneous threads in a few weeks: Spring Severe Weather and Winter Weather... Double the fun!

NAO is North Atlantic Oscillation and it is related to the Arctic Oscillation or AO.

Here you go deep south snow lovers
we have to wait 16 days for a pattern change. Cold and stormy will dominate the West coast with snow possibly as far south as L.A and San francisco. Not really a pattern change just cold blast.
