Near DFW Airport I went from Grapevine to Southlake when I went into the store it was 46 came out not even an hour later 41. According to all my weather apps it wasn't supposed to hit 41 till around 6:00 p.m.

Yeah I do agree the gulf is much more a modifier. This specific case is unique because getting cold air from Chicago to Dallas, you're climbing elevation through the Ozarks-Ouachita, even if it's not a full impediment it is a slowdown enough compared to out west. Typically it is a feature more for the Sabine River region to the east when cold is coming from the north or northwest.

Not sure what is going on with the 10: snowfall maps, but skewT shows midlevel temps are way too warm for that. Maybe a bit so sleet mixing in down there but its a freezing rain event for SE TX.

I'm not sure what you're looking at, but the 18Z HRRR is warmer than most models for Sunday. It has some light freezing rain across mostly north Houston Sunday morning with the temperature at 33-34 degrees.

Abilene could def see some sleet mixing in this afternoon. Nothing should accumulate out there until early evening though.

“For the First Time in Forever… It Might Snow in Texas” (From Frozen)

(A Storm2k Winter Storm Parody)

The sky is lookin’ kinda different,
There’s a chill upon the breeze.
People runnin’ to the store now,
Buyin’ milk and bread and cheese.

The clouds are gettin’ thicker,
The wind is feelin’ bold.
My phone keeps buzzin’ warnings
’Bout the rain that might turn cold.

And now I’m pacing by the window,
Like I’m waiting for a show…
Could it be? Is this the moment?
Will we finally get some snow?

’Cause for the first time in forever,
Texas might just freeze tonight.
For the first time in forever,
We might wake to a world of white.

I don’t know if it’ll happen,
But the hype is runnin’ high…
For the first time in forever,
Winter’s knockin’ from the sky.

The roads will turn to chaos,
Drivers panicked, sliding slow.
Kids will press their faces to the glass
Just hopin’ for some snow.

And every Storm2k poster
Is refreshing every run…
We’re all ready for the magic,
Let this winter storm be fun.

’Cause for the first time in forever,
We’re all watchin’ clouds roll in.
For the first time in forever,
Let the snow games now begin.

Maybe sleet or maybe flurries,
Maybe nothing — who can say?
But for the first time in forever…
Texas winter’s here today.

Yeah. It’s down to 40 but more importantly the DP is dropping quickly. I think we will be approaching freezing a lot sooner than midnight.

Lots of instability over Deep East Texas tomorrow night. Could be some legit storms in the sub freezing air down there.

Freeze line is Abilene to Wichita Falls to Ardmore to Henryetta the due east along I-40 across Arkansas. It will approach from the NW and NE tonight. Even though NW DFW already is in mid 30s models show the freeze line slowing its progression as it approaches the DFW core.
