Today was not really that impressive. These fast-moving showers that stream from southwest to northeast in this pattern are pretty dull compared to a stationary convergence zone that follows some of our active fronts. Although R-Dub saw some of the "good" PSCZ action today.

Anyone south of a Renton to North Bend line rarely gets to see a "fun" PSCZ that just sits and dumps rain and hail. When the PSCZ does reach you it usually fizzles or moves through rather fast.

Most sites saw only a tenth of inch of rain during the daylight hours today. BORING. You can tell by the radar that the action was pretty dull outside of R-Dub's area early this morning.

Unfortunately the 00Z run of the ETA (NAM) looks weaker overall with the trough for the next few days. Its not too likely that we will see a really awesome convergence zone. We need a solid front followed by strong westerly winds. Not just a open trough meandering around.

We saw this type of pattern twice last April.

I remember it well.

Yeah TT we got hammered up here this morning. I think (looking at the radar this morning anyway) LK Stevens got even more heavy rain then what I saw. I wouldn't be suprised if they had 1.5" or more of rainfall.

Last April was much different, looking at our weather records at work this morning, we had a total of .25" for the entire month! We were running irrigation for much of the month. We had 4 days in the 80's, 6 days in the 70's and the other days were mainly in the 60's. We had no high temps in the 40's at all in April 2004.
This April is much more normal then what we have seen in the past 2 years.
We have mainly been in the 40's and 50's for highs and have had 3.65" in just the first 11 days of this month.

Hopefully we get some nicer weather soon!! 8-)

I guess it was colder and wetter in North Bend last year than most other places. I do remember the month ended on a hot note. We have to be wetter overall now than last year at this time!!

Still... what you had this morning was VERY different than what most of us down here saw this afternoon.

I find these fast-moving showers very annoying because it looks like it should be exciting but when it arrives it lasts for about 10 minutes and the sky starts brightening up. And the rain drops are very widely-spaced. Hence... the low rainfall totals.

Like I said... very dull compared to your excitement this morning. Or the stationary PSCZ last week that dumped snow in Darrington.

Snow_Wizzard and W13 get some action in this pattern so they are excited... but it pales in comparison. Even here in North Bend it is very boring compared to a true PSCZ pattern.

I guess they have to take what they can get in the South Sound!! For consistent fun it pays to be either near or north of I-90. Its just a fact of life in Western Washinton.

TT...I beg to differ we had lots of heavy showers and thunder today. You are sure in a "wet blanket" mood.

You call 39 on the East Hill of Kent in the afternoon dull. Unbelieveable! By the way it was 80 degrees on this day last year. The lowest high temperature in April last year was 55 degrees! You call that the same as this? Sheesh.

Like I say...We will see who is right about all of this won't we. You have proven nothing yet. Just because you say something does not mean it's so. What you are saying about last April is great example of that...

Edit: By the way...you say that south King County never gets the good stuff? It just so happens that the best snow pellet storm I ever saw was in May of 2003 right where I'm living now...in Covington. I lived in the C zone area for many years before that so I can do some honest comparison of the two places. I don't know why you get so blasted negative sometimes!

Dude... you KNOW the PSCZ is usually either near or north of I-90.

To argue otherwise is silly.

That storm in 2003 was the exception to the rule. South of I-90 you have hope for a perfect situation. North of I-90 is happens all the time. Then you get excited when the flow is from the southwest and all that does is push the PSCZ up to Marysville. These popcorn showers are dull.

I am just disappointed in the situation today. The highs were in the low 50's. Statistically that is not significant. Most Aprils have days like today.

I think a much more interesting and "fun" situation would be a tight low pressure blasting through near the Canadian border leaving behind a wild, southward moving PSCZ.

Of course as I write... a line of rainshowers is moving through the Seattle area (all the way down to Tacoma). Still... I bet it looks much more impressive on radar than in reality.

Glad you enjoy it R-Dub!

I just don't know how he can see the same thing so differently from me.

By the way...Brennan just instant messaged me to say he had snow this evening. The boredom rolls on! Keep it coming! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Sure, I miss the C Zone, but I have found that there are many neat things that happen here that don't up around the county line. The east wind events come to mind. Then you have the 10 straight days with snow on the ground in the winter of 2003 - 04 when they had only a few days with snow north of Seattle. We also do get the C zone on occaision, and other situations that bring enhanced precip to the south central and SE King County areas.

That having been said. I am dying to get to Palmer. Snow city!

Currently 37 F as of 9:32 PM ... I would not be surprised if we get below freezing tonight and see some wet snow.

Brennan... it was a fairly boring day south of Everett.

Fairly exciting north of there.

W13... its NOT going below freezing tonight with wet snow. You are at the same temperature you were at in the middle of the afternoon!!

I remember you saying the same thing over and over again all winter and it rarely happened even then.

In April... only in a convergence zone.

TT...I think you needed to see some of the squalls that came through this area today. You would not have called it boring.

I am amazed that Sea - Tac actually got down to 37 during the heavy squall they just had. Only two degrees short of the record low for the day and in a precip situation yet! I think TT should admit he was wrong about today, while he can still save face! :D

It sure looks like the models are underestimating the cloud mass off the coast. Right now, I would say that tomorrow looks cold, wet, and cloudy. No doubt that some places are going to be on the edge of snow at times, for the next few days. I am simply flummoxed how some people are not impressed by this...

Justin...Keep the faith! There are some people who want to rain on our parade. I am satisfied, so that's all that matters!
