Supposed to get down to 19 here by Wednesday morning. 4 Ps. Hopefully frozen precip. Otherwise, wasted cold IMO.

Still the same from previous posts. We get out of this outbreak and transition to another with a short break between. Jan 10-15th is the next cold period to look for

I guess I meant to say maybe we will have better opportunity this time. Further west. We haven't had our chance yet

Re: Texas Winter 2017-2018
For those wondering, THE CPC just issued an Updated January Outlook. Temperatures look to remain below normal East of the Rockies and precipitation below normal across Texas.

Re: Texas Winter 2017-2018
According to the CPC, precipitation chances look pretty decent for the northern half of the state over the next couple weeks. Not so good for the southern half though.

Light dusting of snow early this morning in Texarkana, enough to make the roof tops white.

24 here with a good north wind.
This outbreak is not going be as transient as the more recent ones. I think that’s a good sign that the pattern itself will be persistent.

Just had a lite band of grainy snow move through, lasted about 10min and laid down a dusting on rooftops.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Fort Worth TX
329 PM CST Sun Dec 31 2017
.SHORT TERM...
Drier air continues to work its way into North Texas this
last afternoon of 2017, with a sharp clearing line now
approaching the Red River. A sharp gradient in dew point
depressions currently drapes across the Red River, with 10-15
degree dew point depressions in the North and 5-10 south of the
river. The heaviest of the precipitation has shifted south of the
Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, with an improvement in weather
expected through the night across the region. Latest hi-res
guidance does suggest the possibility of light snow flurries
across Central Texas late this evening, but no accumulations are
expected given the very small dendrites and the short duration of
precipitation.
Cold & dry air advection will continue to through the
night, with low temperatures bottoming out around 10 degrees in
the northwest, and low 20s in the southeast. Atop of the cold
temperatures, winds will remain fairly constant through the night
between 10-15 mph out of the north. This combination will lead to
frigid wind chill values, especially for areas north of an Cisco
to Denton to Paris line. A Wind Chill Advisory will be in effect
from 6 PM Sunday to noon Monday for those areas, where wind chill
values are expected to be between -5 to 0 degrees.
At this time, there will not be a change to the Wind Chill
Advisory, but a few patchy spots in the surrounding counties under
the Wind Chill Advisory may dip below zero for a very short
period of time. Skin exposure in these bitterly cold temperatures
should be limited, as it would take only 30 minutes to begin
experiencing frost bite. Now would be the time to remember the
four basic P`s of winter weather...Don`t forget about 1)people
2)pets 3)pipes and 4)plants.

.LONG TERM...
/Monday Onward/
2018 will be off to a bitterly cold start with temperatures in the
teens and wind chills in the single digits or even below zero.
The Wind Chill Advisory will continue through noon on Monday
before some clearing occurs and temperatures climb all the way
into the 20s or low 30s for highs. Despite the cold, it appears
that most records will be safe in terms of morning lows and low-
maximums, albeit only by a few degrees. Frigid conditions by
Texas standards will continue Monday night and Tuesday morning,
although slightly lighter wind speeds should preclude another Wind
Chill Advisory as apparent temperatures are forecast to remain
above 0F. Highs will also climb slightly higher on Tuesday
afternoon, although much of North TX may remain below freezing for
the second consecutive day.
By Tuesday afternoon/evening, a strong shortwave trough will be
swinging through the Southern Plains. Its passage is currently
forecast to be dry as the atmosphere overhead should be starved
for moisture. However, a deck of mid clouds may manage to develop
as it approaches. We`ll have to keep an eye on this to see if the
atmosphere may be able to squeeze out any snow flurries, but right
now that seems unlikely. A warmer day is expected Wednesday as
height rises occur and winds become more westerly. However,
another ill-defined front will move through beginning Wednesday
evening. This will cause another slight cool down for Thursday and
keep temperatures below-normal.
Milder weather should prevail on Friday and into next weekend as
south flow resumes. Temperatures should return to near normal by
Saturday as the southerly flow regime brings moisture back into
the area. As this occurs, fog and low clouds will be likely given
the prolonged stretch of cold weather resulting in very cold
ground temperatures. There remains a substantial difference in
this timing however, with the ECMWF and the GFS/GEFS members
suggesting anytime either Saturday or Sunday or possibly as late
as Monday before some 40s and 50s dewpoints arrive. When this
finally does occur, some warm advection showers will be possible
and have included some low PoPs beginning on Sunday.

That's me, actually. I'm driving around town in Champ the Charger with the windows down and squirting a giant spritz bottle.

That's a shortwave (upper air disturbance) generating enough lift for sleet.
