We’re already at 33° up here. Should be below freezing soon.

Winter weather advisory for Longview for up to 1/4" of sleet/snow and up to 1/10" freezing rain.
With the reports coming in that the front and freezing lines are moving faster than expected, I wouldn't be surprised if Longview gets bumped to a winter storm warning. But I don't think that will happen until tonight or early tomorrow morning.

Temps are falling faster than forecasted. I wasn’t supposed to make below freezing until closer to evening. Now looking closer to after noon.
Abilene is 35 and I am hour away south sitting at 40 and falling.

The Falls will be good place to watch for the next few hours. The 12z HRRR has the temp hold steady for the next few hours before starting to drop around 17z. As wxman57 pointed out, the first push of cold air is pretty shallow and modifying. It looks like the HRRR holds up the Falls until the next push of cold air.

Re: Texas Winter 2021-2022
Just compared the NWS timeline issued this morning to the previous version. Ice timing start similar but goes to sleet a few hours earlier. Extended snow chances longer, starting 9-10 am looks like.
Good trends.

Cold air, please get here faster! FWD has all of Collin & Rockwall counties getting one quarter to one half inch of ice accumulation.

That must mean they think a change to sleet and snow is now more evident for Tarrant and counties NW, while the ice threat is greater Dallas Co eastward.

I've noticed that the NWS-Forecasts are mostly from the 10:1 Ratio, the 10:1 Ratio on the 12z HRRR shows 6-10 inches for Central & NE Oklahoma, mostly along I-44

That's kind of what I was thinking that the ratios will be higher once it gets going because of how cold it will be

Re: Texas Winter 2021-2022
One thing to note with the 12z Hi-Res incoming is the colder air and subsequently the freezing line is booking it further south and as a result putting more freezing rain into SC TX including SA metro. This could also have implications as mentioned for DFW where the initial wave is freezing rain (which globals sort of passed at), then significant sleet and some snow particularly across FW. Not all models show this but it's clear to me the Hi-Res are much colder quicker and in terms of depth further north. Interesting trend to watch today.

WRF-ARW2 looks to have the most accurate location of the freezing line as of 9am. Make of that what you will…
