The cicadas? I love listening to them. Unfortunately, my ears ring at about the same frequency as cicadas, making them hard to distinguish from the normal "noise" in my ears. I wonder when we'll see the first June bugs this year? Maybe we'll have to change their name to "February" bugs? I'm keeping an eye on the pecan tree in my neighbor's yard. If it starts leafing out, then we know that winter is over, for sure. Pecan trees don't like the cold at all.

I'm disappointed in Houston's weekend forecast. Nice and warm every day but the weekend. Will have to bundle up for our bike rides (definitely long-sleeves).

Oh man, I have been hearing bugs during the evening for the past few weeks. Bees and wasps flying around. Sounds like an early Summer evening, in FEBRUARY.

Bees are fine, wasp are a different story, however.

yeah but it keeps staying 300+ hours out and by then the calendar is working strongly against us.

The "cold" sooner has trended warmer

There is actually a bit of support for that from the Euro EPS. And by a bit, it's like a couple of members. At least there appears to be a svr wx threat for N. Texas early next week to track.

I'll be really interested in when the first fireflies come out this year. Typically They start showing up around the end of March/Beginning of April.

I almost forgot to post the ammount of rain that I got from the other night. Was too focused on the severe weather aspect. That just will not do! I'm the Rain Miser after all...

This is one unique year for sure. What a weird one. Hoping we get a modiki with of course a warm pool near Alaska. We knew we were at risk for this sort of winter. Big cold balsts, warm inbetween. Thats La Nina. For the first half, it was playing out perfectly! Now thats its nino-ish, no idea what March will be like. I am a bit happy we dont have a La nina summer though.

Dadgummit sir. Dadgummit. I just. I just cannot. I am done. I would love Winter to come back, but I just....I am worn out. This morning's bike ride was just rough as a cub. Today's run will be the same. Shorts in February. Double Sigh.

We do have to take into consideration the Super El Nino of 2015-2016 will continue to influence the background state where past analogs fail going forward. A similar raising of the background temperatures occured after 1997-1998 super event which we have yet to recover from. DFW has not had single digits officially since that event.

I'm not picking on you TPB but your note does prompt me to say something. I have seen others here mentioning the Nina and that we knew it could be like this ... I don't agree. At best we had a weak Nina and I remember plenty of discussion around this forum and from other professionals online that this winter was going to have some blocking and some prolonged cold. That NEVER happened. At worst we had two real cold shots and they were very brief. Outside of that it has been above the MUCH ABOVE normal. Thank God we at least have had some precipitation and more than what we would see in a real Nina winter.

I'm reading where the nation is on par to have one of the warmest Februarys in recorded history. I am becoming more and more convinced that our winters of the past will not return. As someone said in this thread the other day, we all may have to simply adjust our expectations in future winters and forget what happened 10, 20 years ago.

It has most definitely been a very warm couple winters, but 09/10 and 13/14 and 14/15 somewhat are recent cold and snowy winters for much of the state.
