How are the conditions in Austin?
Heh, terrible. Seriously. All of the local ISDs are closed as are a growing number of businesses. Most of the main roadways are just wet but there are a few which are icy and they're roadways with a grade ... so, you know, a hilly roadway with ice. Bad combo. Pretty much every elevated roadway and bridge is ice encrusted. There were ... no joke, between 100-200 accidents last night alone. Most of our major arteries in town feature elevated roads/bridges so the net effect of the icing is societal shutdown. Law enforcement is asking people to stay off all roads unless it's an emergency.
We ended up with only about .05 to .08 of precip as well, which is a bit below what the short-term models were suggesting yesterday. As it turns out, the GFS was right and the Euro and NAM were wrong.
But as we have to continually remind folks ... it doesn't take much frozen precip at all to lock it all down.
