With another 2013-14 Texas Winter weather event in the books, it should be noted once again that the GFS had another coup for this winter. It has been deadly within the 5-6 day range the past few months.

Now onward to the next potential setup, it has been awhile since I've seen so much agreement for extreme cold on the extended guidance. Check out the CFSv2 models, although its been subpar this winter, it's in pretty good agreement with the other models - extremely below normal temps and above normal precip......

Temps in the 5-15 day range - 1 to 2 Standard Deviations below normal for a 10 day stretch is remarkable

I'm looking at WxBell GFS model depiction, and I am not seeing that. Could you provide some images, Steve.

I'm happy for you guys down south - you finally got some winter precip!

Things you don't see every day, week, month, year - Kyle Field iced over.

I can't believe A&M still has class today. I'm one tired guy going to class after staying up late watching the wintry precip.

Natchitoches didn't get as much as I had thought.

Toledo Bend area seems to be the bullseye. Maybe Sam Rayburn, but I don't think I know anyone in that area to snag photos from.

Well, the 6Z GFS looks like a broken record for DFW - DRY. Warm this weekend, cold next Tuesday/Wednesday. I hate to see cold air wasted. :(

The retrograding pattern that was advertised is still on going. Ensembles develop a deep trough in the middle of the country locked by ridging above. Spokes of storms and cold to the mountain west and bleeding cold to the east. Don't look away or you might be caught off guard, as JB likes to say I quote "storms and rumors of storms."

It seems to me the State NWS offices are getting ready to be caught off guard again. I haven't checked the overnight AFD's, but yesterday afternoon much wasn't said about next week.

Where are those old timers from Brownsville who used to talk about evolving patterns two weeks out? Find one out on the course at Rancho Viejo, RGV 20!

Precip started just after midnight in Lafayette. Mostly a mix of sleet and freezing rain, gradually trending towards more sleet. It's almost all sleet now, with snow pellets/graupel mixing in occasionally. It's accumulating on cars and rooftops, but not sticking to the (warm) ground as well. Surface streets are wet, although I'm guessing bridges are in bad shape...

Just a couple of pictures, nothing too impressive. Scene here looks a lot like the pics already posted from roughly the same latitude (Austin, Sulphur, etc.).

Image

These reverse footprints are interesting. The sleet and snow pellets are heavy enough that they settle by the grass roots instead of resting on top. There's more than half an inch of the stuff hidden in the higher grass...

There was some light snow/sleet earlier in and around Rio Grande City and Roma....here at my work about 10 miles east there was some very light sleet mix in with a bit of snow.

Cheering for that negative PNA. With lots of troughing in the west, could really get ALL of Texas in on the action... eventually.

Neither can I. Hopefully the walkways didn't ice over, or it's going to be a hell of a walk to Blocker.

It looks like the 12z GFS is delaying the cold until Tuesday
