Yep, except those folks consider themselves very fortunate to be in that swath. Unlike here where we fret about Lucy... (continuing to crack her knuckles for next week ;)

I believe that area is referred to as Austin-North.

Looking at the 850mb and 2m temperature anomalies in the 12Z European, next weekend's cold airmass takes a trajectory more southward across the TX Panhandle and west Texas, to include eastern New Mexico. Similar to the front that was mostly west of I-35 a month or so ago. Temps in SE TX about 8-18F below normal, meaning a light freeze for Houston. About 28F below normal in D-FW, which I'd assume would mean mid 20s in the Sunday/Monday time frame. The Euro also has the precip remaining west of D-FW Friday and Saturday then moving across the metroplex on Sunday. Liquid amounts .2 to .4", or about 2-4".

models won't get a good grasp until Sunday...heck the runs tonight might flip flop....I will say this if the GFS is right then it could get interesting in the golden triangle but will the GFS or EURO be right who knows

What would cool ground temps faster? Freezing rain, sleet or snow??

Golden Triangle can also refer to Denton, Ft. Worth, Dallas. IF you are from Denton. Rest of metroplexers never say that..

The mall in Denton is even named that.

Wxman57 - apart from the models, what is your prediction for far NW Harris County area with both of the fronts next week? Do you think we go below freezing with either of them? Also, do you think that some form of frozen precipitation is out of the question for this area?

In Tomball, most likely the precip would start out as cold rain then change to a mix of sleet with possibly some freezing rain on Monday. There could be some issues with icing on the more exposed bridges/overpasses, but I don't expect a lot of accumulations so far south.

Thanks for your input! This close to this front passing, what are the odds that the models are underestimating the cold air at the surface. Are you comfortable that they are fairly accurate at this point for SE Texas.
