Sad news: neighbor’s sister-in-law died in the car pileup. :(

Sorry to hear about the sad news. As we move into this "fun", but serious conditions we must all realize we aren't promised tomorrow. I hope everyone is prepared.

I’ve prepared as much as I can, and I hope others do. All of my students today said “it won’t really snow” and their parents are doing nothing, which scares me. I couldn’t convince the wife to get a generator so I will just hope power stays on with our buried lines and have contingencies if I had to move us for heat.

It is funny you say this. Obviously, being here I'm a weather, snow, tornado enthusiast that has moderate experience in weather for many years. I mention things I see to my wife, but I'm careful about what I say not jumping the gun on things and try to keep things realistic. So, she mentioned to her co workers that they may make preparations and get things ready particularly with the icing and dangerous temperatures and all of her co-workers do is joke and say nothing is going to happen, won't be that bad, blah blah blah. Really discouraging when I think it is probable at this point that the weather could be really bad.

My dad always made sure we had blankets, water and a full tank of gas before this kinda stuff in the car. If we lost power you can at least run the car for some heat.

@BigJoeBastardi — Well worth the read given what's coming for Texas. BTW after the Sunday Monday storm, another snow and ice event midweek, Only after that does warming come. Oklahoma and Texas facing a historic event.

I think we have a shot at some cold temps on Tuesday morning that will rival some of the great outbreaks, but that 1983 freeze saw 10 consecutive days of lows below freezing in Houston. This cold snap will be intense, and lasting several days, but not as long as that.

And they will the ones calling 911 and wondering why they can't get help. It's called preparation. Sure, did I buy an extra case of water, food and propane this week? Yes, I don't hope to us it but I've got my wife and two young kids to take care of. I'm by no means a prepper. Best case I'm stocked up on some items I'll use in time. Worst case I need them to get through a few days without power or running water and cold temperatures.

Now if they say the Cowboys will win another Super Bowl, that I see not happening for sure

P.S. make sure you cars are filled up incase you need to get out and get stranded.

Thank goodness that cluster of freezing precip in the Hill Country is dissipating. Have had quite enough of this ice... and it's only the beginning...

Since I don't see it posted from earlier for those who haven't yet prepped it is best to do so as soon as possible, if you can safely. 0z guidance so far mostly just reinforces the idea.

There’s a chance of flurries in the next hour. If it does start then it should stick immediately if it accumulates. Can’t wait to see it! :spam:

Don't use my posts as forecast, I'm a complete meteorology noob! I just like cold weather, alright?

All observations I post are for Temple, Texas unless otherwise stated.

Based on my latest perusal of the models on COD... Here's my thoughts for northeast/east TX...

It seems like there's a bit of a lull tonight into early Saturday (freezing mist/fog still possible) before another light icing threat evolves by Saturday evening over much of the same areas as today, with some very light snow north of that.

Some additional light mixed precip will continue through Sunday before the main wave begins Sunday afternoon through Monday. 3"-6" of snow seems likely.

The 2nd major storm looks to have an even worse mixed precip/ice threat (localized spots of 0.5"-1"+ of ice) and similar amounts of snow, in the 3"-6" range.

I still think the models are handling the temperatures poorly and may be too warm in many instances, at least in the short term. As long as it's cloudy with a north wind, areas that have already reached freezing or below will struggle to warm much above the 32F mark again. If we get a widespread layer of snow by Monday, it may push the ice threat farther south for the 2nd major storm, with snow totals potentially increasing as a result.

Just my latest thoughts!

0z Euro looks like a good trend, it's tad slower for Sun-Mon.

EWX probably wants to start looking at watches for parts of their WFOs too if you go by this run.

2nd storm is mostly a miss except for East Texas on the Euro.

I never imagined I would feel disappointed about a model run showing 4" of snow for Dallas

You’re still a few days out, you don’t want to be in the bullseye yet. Give it time to shift.

(not based on science, but it feels right)

Ratios would be something more like 4-8", but yeah the gap is funny .
