As was the RGEM, CMC has come around a little more with system #1.

I think we are going to see WFOs across Texas ramp up on snow/wind wording today. Just a guess.

I seriously doubt the ground freezes that deep. Yeah I can see the top 1/2"-1" freezing as it did imby in 2011, but not as deep as sprinkler systems are. I always turn off the sprinkler water supply. I supposed it's possible that could freeze since its in a boxed area under the ground.

Thanks. I don't even know how to drain it. I will try to insulate those pipes in the boxes. I frankly forgot about them! Also, our main water pipe to the house is in another box outside as well. Geez, I hope there is insulation in stock at HD or Lowes. I can throw some old blankets I guess if no other option. I'm at school for a teacher work day but not getting much done. I may have to leave early to prepare those items. I thought I got everything, but apparently not.

If we get snow that might help protect the deeper ground a bit also from the deeper cold.

From the NWS just now...

At 1030 AM CST, there have been multiple reports of localized light
to moderate snow downstream of area lakes. These areas of snow are
usually narrow bands confined to areas near and south of area lakes.
Visibility may be reduced to less than 1 mile in snow for brief
periods of time. These rapidly changing conditions could surprise
drivers. Slow down and drive with extreme caution.

Conditions can deteriorate rapidly in winter weather situations. Be
prepared for snow or ice on roads near lakes. Slow down and allow
extra time when traveling

If you turn off the sprinkler supply, it should start to automatically drain. But the proper way is to find each sprinkler head and raise them for the water to drain. I'm not doing that because I don't know where every sprinkler head is. If I have to change busted sprinkler heads, then I'll live with it.

We live about 300 yards from Lake Ray Hubbard, and about 1 mile from the Collin/Rockwall county line so we're near Lavon as well. I remember the lake effect flurries. I don't see any outside right now though.

For the most part they should be fine, but if your worried about the box connections you could stuff some old towels in them. If your worried about your house pipes fill a bath tub with water and then turn off the water at the meter for the night. Use a bucket to pour water into your toilet tanks for those purposes overnight and turn the meter back on the next day.

Just keep in mind visitors to take these maps with a grain of salt. There are other models that show way less that don't get posted because they are less shocking I guess. Things are however trending up a bit today across many of them.

Oh, and gig 'em!

Good ideas. I don't want to go to the extreme and do way more than necessary either. Also, I second folks to listen to official NWS forecasts for amounts. We may get more than they currently forecast, but I trust their judgement on conservatively adjusting them as needed.

I am sure Ice Resistance will post great gifs of the 12z runs, so no need to post them.

I want to be team GFS. This may be the craziest GEFS output I've seen before.

12z GEFS Mean Snowfall is CRAZY!

NOTE: All total ranges are in a 10:1 Ratio snowfall, most of Oklahoma is 15:1 to 25:1 ratio.

GFS-P actually shows more qpf for portions of N. Texas but has a lot fall as freezing rain or sleet.

Also, FWD had forecast highs near freezing across DFW today with partly sunny skies. Clouds are holding tough and most areas are still in the mid-20s.

It's likely overdoing the return flow, like they've all been trying to do all week ahead of the strong system(s). But by then the deeper cold column will have already been in place.

Yeah I doubt any clearing happens, the temperature inversion due to the shallow air mass has prevailed in preventing any clearing forecast.

Add snow cover to the mix and seriously doubt the GFS-P is even close temp wise
