I bet we have a hard freeze in March, just when buds and leaves are sprouting. Seen that many times.

I will renting a cabin up in Nacogdoches during that time. That would be cool if it snowed.

Like they say, a broken clock tells time correctly twice a day and every squirrel finds its nut.

I agree. Never plant a garden before Easter.

Is it the Mesquite that are the last to put out buds? Or Crape Myrtles? Something not usually tricked by Winter warmth(?).

I’ve always heard it was mesquites but last year all the mesquites around me started budding out mid January and we ended up having an ice storm in February. I do know pecans and crape myrtles are alway the last to the party.

No, that one's not right, it's the 384 panel for the 21st, not the 20th of February:

I think a magic 8 ball would be a better option then the models at this point.

Greetings from Ontario where even they can’t get snow. Got about an inch of sleet though.

Per weather.us the Euro is spitting snow Friday afternoon and evening, but dry air and warm surface will make that hard. Maybe some flurries, but enough moisture for even that is highly questionable.

The FV3 appears to be going towards a quasi Phase 8/1 MJO look (just need a little more blocking over the top and towards Greenland) ...the other models look completely lost, particularly the GFS and its Ensembles. The feedback issues over the Rockies looks like a big problem for models in the longer range - would expect systems to eject out, instead of stagnating over the west, as the MJO progresses.

Oh yeah, Pecans. ;) Walking around, I've seen some hackberry scrub around here already putting out green buds. It was so cold for so long, but we haven't hard a hard freeze here since before Thanksgiving. We've had a few light frosts since then, but nothing damaging. In fact, some of the bushes in my yard that die back every year, didn't fully die back. Still had green on them. Definitely not normal.

Yep. I was thinking the same thing yesterday while walking outside in the near 80-degree temps. Over the years when we've had this kind of warmth so early, we tend to see some hard freezes into March.

You folks will all be happier if you just pretend it's July. Wow! Low down to the lower 70s and highs only around 80! That's great weather! See? Isn't that better?

Has anybody done a study on cold springs in warm winters?

I have a feeling that we tend to get cooler springs after years like this that harm severe weather season. But, I’m not sure if that’s truthful.

We would be happier I think ... as it is, hoping for winter weather in Texas nowadays is akin to hitting your head against a brick wall repeatedly.

Hey, at least this is 3 or so runs in a row that show a similar set up around the same time frame. 8-)  :grrr:
