The North Cascades and the north side of the Olympics might be the exception but most of us have seen the majority of our rain.

The radar is already showing this to be the case.

Wow!! They are predicting 59.5 feet for the Snoqualmie river. That would equal 1990 and is almost 6 feet above flood stage. They are predicting 31.0 for the Snohomish at Snohomish which would be a devastating flood. The aftermath of 1990 was terrible and this will be close if not equal to that. I stress again...these types of floods are a warning of a coming severe cold spell. We had a similar pattern to this in Dec, but only half as intense, and that ALMOST lead to us getting clobbered! I am a firm believer in the theory the bigger the warm event the bigger the cold event to come. You must all admit this is up there with the most intense warm and wet event on record for January.

The weather over the next month could really be.

It will probably get cooler next week... not cold.

O.K... we are now shooting for 70 degrees. It is 64.8 degrees at my house now. The school site in North Bend shows 63 degrees.

Also 63 degrees in Portland and 64 degrees in Troutdale, OR.

The all time record for Snoqualmie/North Bend in January is 66 degrees recorded on 1/28/1931.

We are almost there.

Wizzard... check out these years.

1931
1940
1961
1981
1984
2003

These years all featured a Pineapple Express with the temperature going over 60 degrees at Snoqualmie/North Bend in the month of January.

1981 was warm for almost a week (around 60 degrees) right in the middle of January.

Any major arctic outbreaks in February of those years?

O.K... I checked and do not see any record lows or "record cold highs" OR any significant snowfall in ANY of those years at Snoqualmie/North Bend

In other words... it looks like our warmest January Pineapple Express weather in history has FAILED to produce a cold February or March.

BTW - 65.4 degrees at our house... 64 degrees in North Bend.

This is not the same situation. Most of those years were winters that had no cold at all...this one has already set a precedence for cold. The exception is 1983 - 84, but that one had already had a mother lode Arctic blast in December. I generally figure after a mega Arctic blast the chances are low of getting another. I wish I could show you my library of records which support my postiion. I am telling you, it's coming. That's all I can say. You are talking to somebody that may know more about our weather history than anybody. I suppose there could be one or two that know more.

Unbelievably mild today!!! Currently it's 61 F!!! Very little rain today, but a majority of the plume has shifted north and west...into southern BC. Looks like the entire cold front will move through Wednesday night/Thursday morning which will give another dose of heavy rain. Latest long-range GFS models indicate a cooler/drier pattern. Starting January 29, 500 mb heights are down to 526...not unbelievably cold, but anything is better than 60 F!!! lol.

As I said before... I hate the fact that the snow is melting in the mountains.

But its 65.2 degrees at my house... on January 18th!!

I think thats pretty awesome. It feels great outside. I am not complaining!!

Wizzard... I am not a believer yet. But don't let that stop you from trying to convince me!! I find this very interesting.

The latest GFS shows cooler weather but still no signs of anything arctic.

For now I will enjoy a high temperature that is normal for early June!!

Moderate rain currently. Temperature has cooled significantly...down to 53 F. Latest NWS discussions mentions ANOTHER pineapple express this weekend...this is insane!!! Have we ever had two pineapple expresses so close to each other? I'm beginning to miss the cold/dry weather we had last week...it's better than this mild/very wet stuff. It's currently 4pm and it looks like it's almost 6pm outside. Ahhhh. That's what sucks about winter.

Hey I am back!!!!! Don't know how, but I was suddenly able to access the site again! I have a lot of catching up to do, about 8 pages worth :D

Currently 55.1 degrees and the rain has started to fall once again, the wind has calmed down though. NWS saying we are going to get hosed again this weekend, with no snow in sight for ski areas

We did indeed have a double whammy pineapple express in 1990. I am telling you this has Arctic blast written all over it. The 12z and 18z are both hinting at it very strongly. At least they are showing the ground work being laid for it. Predicting from climatology is my specialty...in fact I think I did better with that before I ever saw a computer model! This event meets the requirements in EVERY way.

Anthony, haven't heard anything from the video library person from King5 yet. It was really cool that Jeff Renner personally emailed me back though!! He just went up a couple notches in my book :D If I don't hear anything back from the person in charge of the video library in the next day or two, I'll email again, and maybe email Jeff again as well. Hopefully I will have an answer soon. That was incredible footage of the pineapple express as well as the arctic express of 1990.

Welcome back, R-Dub!!

So the weather historians amongst us will have to tell us when was the last time we had two pineapple expresses in so short a time, and also will have to tell us what happened next.

When it has happened twice in a week, how bad was the second round of flooding? On the one hand, maybe less snow to melt, on the other hand, the rivers would probably still be fairly high and the ground already saturated.

I agree snowwiz, this could get very interesting by the end of the month. Remember we don't need a tanked PNA, just negitive, with negitive AO, and that really sets the stage for some awesome winter weather.

R-Dub, I have a niece who works for King 5, if you don't get any answers back about your project (it sound like you want footage from 1990), then maybe I can ask her.
