Never fully transitioned to snow and ended with mostly sleet. This is by far the most sleet I've ever seen, so I guess that is something... Rain gauge looks like 2.5 frozen liquid with a bunch of sleet on top, so some very much needed rain.

Definitely a lot of sleet but I think Feb 2003 and December 2013 top it amount wise. I also remember some good sleet storms in the mid/late 80's after moving from San Antonio. If memory serves right those two storms were sleet from start to finish so the warm nose was a big player. Heaviest sleet was the Dec 2013 storm by far.

Measured 1.75 inches of snow. Not bad for a delayed snow start. I thought it would be snowing by 8, and it really didn’t change fully until 9:30 or so. About 1.5 hours of snow total, so hefty rates.

Oh, and about .5 of sleet I wiped off earlier.

The radar is what's concerning to me. It's creeping toward NW Houston right now. I wonder if it makes it all the way down to the surface.

Record rainfall yesterday - 1.10"

Might make a run at Saturday's record low. Record is 12F, forecast is 13.

This is the noon update from jeff:

Cold air mass continues to push into the region.

Freezing line extends from just north of College Station to Giddings to the north side of San Antonio. This line has only slowly progressed southward this morning. North of this line freezing drizzle/rain is falling, but per TXDOT road reports much of any surface bridge/overpass ice accumulations is well behind the surface freezing line and this is closer to where temperatures are in the 29-30 degree range. Large swath of rain and freezing rain continues over the western and northern parts of SE TX with a lack of returns over the US 59 corridor.

Rain out to the west will slowly move to the east with time while decreasing in coverage this afternoon and evening. High resolution guidance continues to bring this activity toward the US 59 corridor by early to mid evening. While this happens, the surface freezing line will begin to push southeast deeper into the region and expect the light rain to become light freezing rain across most areas NW of US 59 during the late afternoon and early evening hours.

Some patchy ice accumulation on bridges and overpasses remains possible especially where surface temperatures fall into the 29-30 degree range. This will most likely happen overnight to the NW of the US 59 corridor. Any accumulations will be light, but it does not take much to cause issues on bridges….especially the taller flyovers and connector ramps.

Wind Chill Advisory remains in place for tonight generally along and NW of US 59 (Harris County has been added to this advisory)

Hard Freeze Warning remains in place tonight from Waller and Montgomery Counties north and west (not including Harris County)

Looks like another snow band is developing west of Austin and heading NE towards me. Maybe an hour of snow showers possible? Would love it considering this sleet on the ground is messing with my brain on whether or not's it's snow or sleet.

Summer's for hibernation, Winter’s my vacation

Don't use my posts as forecast, I'm a complete meteorology noob! I just like cold weather, alright?

All observations I post are for Temple, Texas unless otherwise stated.

I'm curious if the stronger returns 8n Van Zandt County are sleet or snow. They are sure taking their time moving east.

Temperature battle now for metroplex Saturday morning. GFS, rap, Hrrr wants to get us to single digits while Euro says upper teens ~20. Nam in the middle. HP settles with little wind and optimum radiational cooling. We won't go that low tonight due to cloud cover and winds staying up.

Starting to snow again :double: I wouldn't be surprised if we match or beat the stretch before midnight last night since we battled sleet for awhile  :spam: I was only measuring about 2 and a half inches when I went to bed. Forecast is 2-3

Models going with the lower temps are taking into account an icy ground. Definitely going to be colder where the ice is covering the ground.

Same thing up here... The places with the most snow are probably gonna make a run for zero. My forecast is 4 right now

Ntxw, the gfs is advertising another cold blast 240hrs out. Is that the one that could trend west or is there another one further west behind that one? Just curious

Around 4 here on the south side. Airport on the NE side 5.8 at last report. Seen some 7-8 inch totals around NW AR

But we're not done could be another 2-4 inches tonight. Definitely gonna verify the forecast here

That trough is too positive tilted right now and is more dry cold like in January favors east. Behind it is one that looks just like this current trof.

It's turned into a dud here. We missed all moderate or stronger bands so have spent all day with freezing drizzle or light sleet. Still wouldn't want to drive in this, but not winter storm warning levels.
