That trough is too positive tilted right now and is more dry cold like in January favors east. Behind it is one that looks just like this current trof.

Was just looking at that, and I think it’s worth watching. The last 7 runs in a row of the gfs op show some variation of this pattern, and the gefs has a signal as well

Temps here leveled off this morning at 39 for a few hours, but now it's dropping again. Down to 37 here. The freeze line is steadily progressing to the SE. It now stretches from Lake Conroe to Magnolia to Waller to Wallis. Should be here around 5-6 PM.

Freeze line now Willis - Lake Conroe - Magnolia - Hockley - Brookshire. Will be to the 99/290 ramps before long. 36° here now. I think WxMan's wall is crashing.

I’d say here in Denison, from me just eyeballing everything from my home office (I had COVID in early January and now a sinus infection, so I haven’t ventured out much today), we got a 1/4” of ice; maybe an 1.5” of sleet, and maybe an inch or two of snow on top of that.

Everything looks pretty and winter like. Roads are iced up and snow (sleet) packed.

Certainly better than our December weather for sure, but I was hoping that we’d get a big multi inch snowstorm out of this.

But I’m very thankful for what we got here.

Well, I hope we get a pure snowstorm still before winter ends, but if not, I am satisfied to at least see some white on the ground and roofs.

Some flurries again, which will help darken the skies and limit melting today. It got pretty bright with the end of the big snowband earlier. Two decent events two years in a row after nothing except flurries after 2014-2015, so I will take it.

Precipitation has ended in Downtown Austin. Lots of ice on surfaces, however.

Just went for a walk around my east-central Austin neighborhood; no current precip, in fact the overcast seems to be lifting a bit. Almost as if the sun is trying to peek out.

Well with the main part of the event over for us in south central Texas, I have to give kudos to the NWS. They nailed it with their forecast of up to 1/4" of ice and up to 1/2" of sleet. That is pretty much what fell if you average out the reports here in Travis County. What was a surprise was the thunderstorms last night (12 midnight-2 am-ish) and the heavy rain which fell. Showers and a t-storm or two were in the forecast but I'm thinking the intensity of what we had probably surprised even the NWS forecasters.

We had 66 low water crossings in the Austin metro area closed this morning!

Hey wxman57, when's summer? 8-)

Some might say it’s easier to bike on ice. Minimal effort. Just point those handlebars for Galveston and coast. Be sure to bring a miniature generator and a heated blanket and set that thing to cruise control.

It’s a good 5 degrees colder in Wharton County than y’all in Harris. I’m almost down to 29°. Wind chill in the mid to upper teens.

Elevated objects are just now starting to glaze over here. Still mostly wet, but not for long.
