Can anyone tell me if precip is going to fill in around the Austin area this morning? Looks like all the precip is staying north.

HGX suggesting the freezing line my drop precariously close to NW and N Harris County overnight as the latest short range guidance is coming in a bit colder than expected. Also there is a chance that the upper trough may become more negative tilted on Wednesday as it crosses the area and lift increases with a deeper cold layer suggesting sleet and possibly some grauple may fall Wednesday into the afternoon hours.

Nothing that SouthernMet posts, is an official forecast, nor does it reflect views of STORM2K.. SouthernMet is just adding to the great discussions on STORM2K.. Refer to NWS for official forecasts.

These are very fast moving sleet showers (and in some cases t'showers). Should be a "fun" morning stay home if you can. I believe NWS had a 100% chance of sleet tonight for DFW proper but looks like they just downgraded that to 20%. Wondering if we'll get much after this initial wave.

Anyway, enjoy it today. Likely the defining event for an otherwise lackluster winter.

we have a couple more systems to get through this week that could drop significant winter precip after today so I will hold any judgement until at least the end of the week. Ergo know there may be more in early March too.

FOX 4 Evan Andrews sounded confident in some possible snow on Wednesday as the parent storm passes overhead.

That Wednesday system is raising eyebrows with me already and FWD mentioned it could actually be all snow for a period...

Yep, these upper lows are hard to nail down, but with already cold surface and soil temps it could produce a few inches of snow.

I see a few model snow maps already with accumulating snow for most of North Texas including DFW. The Euro ensembles look really good.

and yes... I have fond memories of ULL's from Alabama.

NWS FTW is also thinking snow with the next system but stated it would hold off from adding it to forecast for now. Also WSW will continue through the day and may be extended later this evening if necessary. Sleet amounts have been in creased to 2" on average for most of the metroplex as heavy bands move through this am with some thunder. Today will not see Temps out of the mid to lower 20's with wind chills in the teens and single digits.

I don't blame them for holding off... first this storm takes precedence and second I'd like to see a few runs show consistency before I get too worked up about it...

but I'd be lying if I said if the setup didn't raise my eyebrows... it's how many widespread snowstorms happen in this area.

Just went outside (North Dallas 2 mi E of KADS). The precip coming down is mostly rain, very little sleet or IP. 26F

Models are handling the current situation poorly, none are picking up on this current band. Any schools that stay Oren in Both our Northeast Texas are making a huge mistake. Large areas of 1"+ sleet total asking with freezing rain and some spots much more than that will make travel almost impossible.
