It is not winter anymore.

And we are not in a period of ridging so temperatures should not be so consistently above normal.

It is a sign guys.

Even a deep trough with 500mb heights of 546DM yields temperatures above our 30-year average.

Coming down in BUCKETS!! The wind is really picking up...had a gust around 35 mph. The power is flicking ever so often.

AWESOME WEATHER! If you can't have 80+F temperatures and sunshine, why not enjoy this active weather!!

Hi folks. Well, another moderate rain band is currently over my area...and we also had some very breezy winds when it started really raining! Also had a rumble of thunder. Precip since 11pm last night is now up .43". So will see what my total is here at around 10pm tonight. -- Andy

A total so far of .80 at Sea-Tac.

Total for May so far is now 2.20 inches.

Normal is 1.68 inches.

Awesome. We were due for a couple wet months. Very typical of our climate.

But still above normal. :D

The squall line wasn't that impressive...I was expecting more. Aside from a brief bout of heavy rain, no thunder/lightning and limited wind. I'm surprised...it looked alot more impressive on radar. There's another line rotating from the south...this doesn't look as impressive...but it might surprise us. Daytime heating is waning...the sun is about to go down...thunderstorms will be gone within an hour.

Latest GFS this evening has gotten completely rid the expected high pressure ridge for the upcoming weekend. So instead, showers and unsettled weather looks to continue through at least the frist part of next work week. Maybe a dry day on wednesday the 25th, but then we get back to more showers for 26th and 27th as a 540DM trough comes over us during that time.

In the short term however...a repeat of afternoon thunder storms and heavy rain seem good as lifted indice will be near or -4C/KM and CAPE values in or around the 500 to 600+ J/KG range.

I have never seen rain drops so big as I just saw in the last 20 min!! Looked like snow, but it was all liquid. I have never seen seen water raging down my driveway like that before, it was incredible.

Pretty cool 8-)

NOW I WANT SUN AND WARM!!!!!!

Expect another active day tomorrow...unusually strong southwest flow, high lapse rates and good convective heating. This all adds up to afternoon thunderstorms...very similar to today.

And the pattern continues...the ridge is completely gone for this weekend. I have to say, I am very surprised by the GFS...just three days ago it was showing a monstrous ridge with 500 mb heights approaching 576...afternoon high temperatures around 80F.

Actually, both the ETA and GFS show a rapidly developing surface low to track up the California/Oregon coast beginning Saturday...something to watch.

Good evening all:).

...Ok, lets rewind the weather and take a further review..lol.

Todays weather was very active with heavy showers and thunder storms...especaily from late morning onward through about late evening..or just before dark. Had some nice rumbles of thunder to. These heavy shower band also had some pretty gusty winds and rain coming down in sheets at times. And from looking closely at the storm clouds today...would say some if not most of them were probably reaching heights 30,000 to 35,000ft high. So over all, an interesting day of weather.

Here`s some pics I took of todays storm clouds here in Woodinville. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/ajc192004 ... .dir=/4ee9

A very exciting day today! I went through two intense rain squalls, one with lightning and wind, the other just INCREDIBLY heavy rainfall! I am glad that W13 saw some heavy hail today. That rounds thing out very nicely.

I grow ever more impressed with this incredibly wet spring. This is destined to be one of the wettest April and May combinations on record! My lawn has never grown at such an insane rate.

TT...The answer to how it was above normal with such a deep trough lies in the fact we are on the relatively warm east side of the trough. The bottom and west side of a trough are where it's cold. I assure you this is no sign we are never going to have cold weather again. We are going to see plenty of below normal days over the next week, as we get into the colder sectors of the trough. In general extremely wet weather leads to abnormally cold weather. I am damn pleased with how everything is unfolding this year, and nothing is going to dampen my spirits on that!

Weathergirl...I am surprised you don't see any signs of the stage being set for a cold winter. Everything is pointing to it. You said yourself that we are matching 1983. That December was one of the coldest of the 20th century!

I did not say that we are never going to have cold weather again.

But I have a feeling that the same upper air pattern in the 1950's would have produced a colder day.

Its just a sign that history may not be a very good guide.

Looking at the latest 06z GFS this morning ....our showery weather pattern continues through this weekend, which means we can expect more unsetteled weather with slightly cool temps. 23rd through about the 28th....a ridge of high pressure builds in to give us sunnier conditions.
