Its turning out to be a surprisingly pleasant afternoon with all this sun. Debating heading out for a bit and getting away from the model watching 8-)

Totally kidding about the coronary but, was wondering what a good weather station for the backyard would be?

I went big with a Davis Instruments ISS and their new Weather Live component.

@BigJoeBastardi— For much of Texas from the I-35 corridor east, this is likely to be the most extreme 5 day period of winter weather in a century. Shots in 83 and 89 may have been a tad colder, but did not have 2 major winter storms, one at the front, one at the end.

Hmm, curse of the dry slot void? Dry air wins? :D .

Sun is nice, just don’t want it warming too much. Want to try to break the below freezing record.

Winter 2020-2021 :cold:

All observations are in Tecumseh, OK unless otherwise noted.

Winter posts are focused mainly for Oklahoma & Texas.

Take any of my forecasts with a grain of salt, refer to the NWS, SPC, and NHC for official information

Smaller pine trees leaning over from weight of ice from fog. Very pretty seeing the whole forest coated in ice. Roads are mostly dry.

I agree with Joe and no hyperbole. I've been an astute winter weather observer for over 25 years, and I have never seen this much moisture fall into well below freezing air in East and NE Texas:

Extreme cold typically doesn't come with snow for Texas. Only Feb 1899, for some Jan 1949 (1949 DFW was -2F with 2-3" <- we might match this one), produced the combo. Most of DFW's single digit days are with no to little snow cover.

Pretty decent consensus now between ENS, GEPS and WPC blend for Total QPF. Wild card is GEFS which is still on the table for the 2nd system....either way looks like 8-12 inches of snow total over a wide swath of North Texas. South and East of the metroplex will be nearly impassable with the volume of ice/sleet on the roads.

Holy Batman. That would be the mother load for East Texas/Tyler area.

Southeast Texas is going to be a skating rink if the temps verify.

I just don't see how the flora can take both the cold and ice.

Well, that's a bust for Denton. Forecast calls for high of 25. We are up to 32 and sun....... where's the edge of the true arctic air?

Calm before the storm?

Today's sun has no impact on the storm tomorrow night but it would be lame if a few hours of sun during peak heating bust the freezing streak at DFW airport lol
