It looks like the main precip band that most models project to move southeastward today is now developing from Waco to Junction. Maybe that band will have more frozen precipitation in it. Snow is now being reported in Hamilton and Lampasas.

Have you been getting mostly freezing rain so far? There is a warm nose on the 6z A&M sounding. Unfortunately snow is looking very unlikely here tonight. It might cool off enough for mainly sleet in a few hours though.

Am I looking at the radar wrong? It looks like the precip is staying too far north to affect Houston. It could come south but if it doesn't move soon it will bypass us to the east it seems? Or am I just sleepy?

QPF was supposed to be negligible in Austin. Weathermaps are showing that the area may receive far more freezing rain than previously thought:

Tweet just now from local on-air met Albert Ramon, from KVUE:
Roadways are deteriorating now in Austin. ATCEMS reports "a surge of vehicle crashes in NW corridor...." Be safe, slow down, or stay home!
ATCEMS = Austin/Travis County EMS

WV loop looks promising SE Folk. Were not 100% out of this game yet. Sleet looks likely though, no snow

28° and falling... raining and I can hear some pings on the metal roof outside that sounds like a little sleet mixed in.
If it's raining now and below freezing across my area, how long until bridges and overpasses freeze up? I'm supposed to go to work in a few hours and it's about a 30 minute trip, all in the Winter Storm Warning area.

Law enforcement in the Austin area are starting to shut down elevated roadways/bridges now. So far the hardest hit areas are in north/northwest Austin.

Yep, and more behind it. Im an optimist, but i still see houston being a big part of this event. The NWS has been chasing itself all over this storm. Poor guys. But as Porta said earlier, we have no data in mexico. Using the water vapor imagery you can see the 'plume' yet to interact with that boundary and still in Mexico. Issue is how long it will take to wet bulb, any guess?
We have reports above of 27 and sleet when they were warm not long ago. Everyone is going to work on the news like a normal showery day. I dont know man, i think we are still on for an event.
remember the initial guess was for precip to begin now but we were spoiled when the precip fired up early last night.

Moisture plume continues to extend.
