Thanks South Texas ... no, my mood has been on an upward trend since yesterday and today's trends have done nothing but increase my optimism! I think the local NWS' prediction of 1/2 to 3/4 inch snow for the I-35 corridor will be ramped up. The Canadian and GFS seem solid on 1-3 inches.

I do admit a "little" twinge of concern about the 12z Euro. Hoping it's wrong and trends back the other way with tonight's 0z run.

Here's hoping that SA, CLL, and AUS get to play in plenty of snow by Friday! :D

Speak for yourself. :P I will not be trying out my 4WD Jeep Commander on our local roads much beyond the local neighborhood.

Good to see because up here it is those that own 4WD that are most often seen in the ditch and upside down (peeps that drive them for some reason or other believe they can handle anything and tend to drive them at speeds one would usually do if on summer roads). The 2nd most often seen vehicle in the ditches here are vans (a pic I took a couple of years ago) http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/7640893.jpg (as I said we are underpopulated...pic taken on our major Trans Canada highway).

PortaStorm how is the low moving North a bad thing. Is that not great if you want snow in Austin and DFW?

Sleet still covers the grass, but my sidewalk is now just pure ice. It was a lot easier to walk on yesterday.

12z Euro seems to have sped up the system meaning less precip ('qpf') and if the ULL shears it would mean less concentrated precip.

So that means area to the Norh have a better chance so maybe an inch is not out of the question for us in DFW.

Possibly. I wouldn't expect a lot but it's possible for an inch. I'd watch more towards next week if you want some good snow.

Only 1 model is talking about shearing right now. You may wanna see this.

I've been doing research about recent upper level patterns & comparing them to previous ones, specifically on the topic of a trowal. Basically the exhaust of one ULL feeds a nearby ULL that is following in its wake. This "exhaust" is extra energy for a developing storm system. Based on the WV loop, I conclude that this extra energy will feed our little ULL.

Salt will certainly melt the ice on your sidewalk (but it will also eat the cement)...best if you have sand. My husband always leaves an inch or two of hard packed snow on our sidewalk so if we get a mid winter rain (we've had two this winter) he can go out there and remove the snow with the ice above). Those that have perfectly clean sidewalks prior to a rain and freeze have deadly conditions after. Be careful...I've hit my head a number of times with those conditions.

Transfer of energy usually occurs to a surface low. In most cases, coastal troughs in our part of the world. That would strip the moisture in northern areas away from the coast.

Yeah it took me 5 minutes to check the mail only to find that there was none in my mailbox. I'm sure the emergency room is busy dealing with a lot of injuries from falling down in this.

You will get some snow...found another model dumping 5" in Austin...but won't say much about it.

OK, so for at least through hour 12 (midnight tonight), the 18Z NAM is now seeing the current trends of very light snow falling in NW TX & shows more across our immediate west in the same timeframe.

That is just ridiculous. What were the official accumulations for Chicago?
