Hard frozen pellets here in Plano East. No flakes. Sticking immediately- enough to white surfaces out and keep shallow footprints. A layer of “crunch” in place and getting thicker.

Did you look closely at one of the ice grains in a dark surface with some light? I thought some were sleet too at first but then when checked it was needles instead of round, the early round was. So they may sound like sleet but it doesn't look like typical sleet.

I was so cold out there in my pajamas, I didn't spend enough time out there to really check the precip out like that. I wish I had and I'm thinking about getting fully dressed to go back out (maybe with the next batch if it doesn't go west of me) but on the other hand I want to get some sleep so I can fully enjoy it tomorrow!

I can dream peacefully now... Hopefully I'll wake up and the grass will be gone :froze:

I am not a meteorologist, and any posts made by me are not official forecasts or to be interpreted as being intelligent. These posts are just my opinions and are probably silly opinions.

Getting better flakes now. I'm thinking DFW may get half an inch to an inch by sunrise...

Flakes are big now. Forth Worth, Arlington, Mid Cities and NW Dallas county are in a thick band. The airport is right in the middle of it and visibility is rapidly going downhill from obs.

Just got some big flakes here, immediately turned the ground white even though accumulations are still light.

On that note, pleeease let the WRF-ARW verify. Qpf top/ in the 0.5-0.75” range in Dallas county and is 0.4-0.5” across most of all 4 counties of the immediate metro.

Airport down to 1.25 mile visibility so you know it's coming down hard.

It's going to be easily a foot up there. 0.25 mile visibility and 30-35mph gust for 3+ hours is blizzard criteria. Going to be close.

Winter Storm Warning finally issued for extreme SE TX.

Winter Storm Warning
URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
National Weather Service Lake Charles LA
403 AM CST Sun Feb 14 2021

...Increasing Confidence in the Potential for a Significant
Winter Weather Event Tonight into Monday...

.An upper level disturbance will bring abundant moisture tonight
and continuing into Monday. Meanwhile a very cold air mass will be
in place at the surface. Therefore, any rain is expected to
become freezing rain and sleet as early as after sunset today,
then increase in intensity overnight into Monday morning. The
precipitation will change over to snow and sleet for portions of
the interior southeast Texas and west central Louisiana overnight
and early Monday morning, with some snow mixing in for the
remainder of the area mid to late Monday morning into Monday
afternoon. The winter precipitation will gradually end during
Monday afternoon.

The expected winter precipitation amounts, especially ice
accumulations, will have the potential to produce significant
impacts.

Bitterly cold arctic air will then move in as the precipitation
ends. Dangerously cold wind chills will accompany this arctic air
for Monday night into Tuesday morning.
