Yeah...my yard in downtown is now -4, which is lower than our projected low. I would say how low can it go...but i know it can go well into -teens. I called a friend just to make sure I didnt need to worry about pipes in Denver. He was like, stop worrying! My house is 110 years old so I know it has seen colder...

That's a mighty old record, even by Denver standards. :cold:

And it has time to be broken even more if the temps are still dropping.

I went up to Louisville outside of Boulder and it was -11 according to my car, but the car was reading 2 above when I got back Downtown. 10 degree difference with not much elevation change, thanks to the concrete jungle. Yard thermometer now at -2 though. Louisville at a bit more snow...in fact Boulder Turnpike was treacherous to say the least. Traffic was moving at about 10 mph on a sunday night, 10 hours after the snow stopped. This area just really doesnt seem to handle roads well at all when the sun and temps arent there to help.

Low here in Dowtown Denver for me...-10. That is not officially the lowest I have ever felt because I was up in the northern part of the area to -11 last night. Either way, -10 is easily the coldest that downtown has gotten in my time living here (since May 2006)

Denver Intl. fell to a low of -19F last night! That reading was just six degrees shy of their all-time record low for the month of December (-25F).

Saw -16 on the car dash as I was pulling into my house at 2am.. I live in Erie, just north of Denver..

Hopefully we'll see some snow tonight/tomorrow!

Wondering about the huge discrepancies in forecast from different agencies... NOAA is saying we could see 1-3" over the next day, with a chance on Weds..

Accuweather has been consistant in forecasting up to 9 inches through Weds... In fact, they're dead on with the 1-3" range that NOAA has through Tues.. Then they have snow all day Weds up to 5", where NOAA is saying a slight chance...

Thoughts?

I dont think It really sunk in just how cold it really was here in Denver this morning until I opened the door for my dog to go out (which is normally crossing his paws ready to go in the morning) and he quite literally hit the doorway and turned tail and ran back to the warm kitchen. he was having none of it. I was really worried about my pipes freezing last night as most of my plumbing is in a concrete slab addition (the kitchen and bath were an add on) as opposed to running through the relatively heated basement and crawlspace. The kitchen and bath are much colder in general because they are away from the main heating system. Combine that with the fact that some of the pipes go though a exterior north wall and I was quite concerned. I opened my cabinets and such and even put a space heater in the kitchen in front of the cabinets. The natives would have told me not to, but I am too obsessive and I have seen what frozen pipes can do. I may not do the heater tonight since its only going to be like 4 degrees in stead of -10 and so far so good. The duration of such cold still worries me a little but I guess I will live. It reminds me of my grandma on the bayou in south mississippi. I will never forget the christmas of 1989 when her pipes froze as the temp dropped to like 9 degrees (and of course they were ALL in the open air). Thankfully they did not burst, but it rendered her unable to cook christmas dinner without water. Missing a meal would be much preferable to dealing with a flooded basement or kitchen though.

SCM...I am not too sure what the snow situation will be. As of 18z neither the GFS or NAM bring any QPF east of the divide through 84 hours, whereas before they both showed a decent shot tonight. Sounds like going with lower amounts would make more sense at this point. Who knows...the models havnt handled this arctic blast well at all, so why start now.

I was in Denver this mornign for a class. It was -19F officially in Denver (DIA) and -7F officially in Craig (-11 at the house according to the min guage). Denver was even colder than places like Alamosa and Gunnison which are normally colder. Most of the cold air was east of the Continental Divide.

Yeah.. Everyone is getting snow but us! Vegas??? Malibu?? Hell, Seattle picked up 8" so far today...

We did get a quick dusting this afternoon, complete with thundersnow, freezing rain, and big fat cowpie flakes! It's gone now though. :(

Was pleastantly surprised by this afternoons snow showers. I had more or less given up until I looked out late this afternoon and there it was. Doubt the 1/8th of an inch we got will do much for our white christmas chances though...High christmas eve 38, high Christmas day 54. If it does turn out to be a white christmas it will be a melting white christmas.
