While I really don't expect you to mail me those plants I thought I'd show you what I can grow here in zone 2 (it of course doesn't refer to the temps we have in the summer more to what we get in the winter and the length of the winter here).
Hardy water lilies: http://www.panoramio.com/user/133037/tags/Pond (my tropicals are at the gardening site in a members only forum)
Bird house gourd (more at home in Texas but we had the right summer for it to get to maturity and since we don't have the pollinating moth here I pollinated by hand: http://www.panoramio.com/photo/3997981
My tomato plants hit about 7 feet high and the peppers 3 ft: http://www.panoramio.com/photo/3997947 (not near Texas standards but *darn good* for the northern plains and my crop was amazing.
lots of pics here (mostly my plants) of what can be grown on the far Northern plains: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/images ... n&offset=0
My pride and joy a Florida shipped to me Golden Trumpet, Yellow Allamanda (Allamanda cathartica) that grew and flowered very well here: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/57126/

There is bust potential. I was a little surprised the NWS went with such bullish predictions at first. Then I figured that ice was the reason why, but who knows.
Go figure as soon as I post numbers CMC comes in a bit drier lol. It's showing a storm at hr 108. Mostly in Oklahoma though, considerable snows...
It just seems like too many people are latching on to the 2004 storm and this one is nothing like it. Positively tilted troughs are usually storm killers !!

Here is the 0z GFS snow maps.

You're right about the trough. It's not the same in that regards, 04 was a positive trough going neutral into the gulf. This one is heading northeast into dry air. But that's the benchmark pattern for them to match I guess.

It better not! We still need a huge snowstorm to make this the craziest winter ever. I guess you could say we had one earlier in the winter, but it was confined to eastern parts.
Plus we're supposed to get a foot of snow every winter now! After last year it's only logical!

If OKC can do it 2 years in a row so can we right?!

So is this new? Or is this from this morning ???
Edit:
found this at Austin Energy website
February 2, 2011, 9:15 p.m. --
ERCOT’s electricity demand peaked this evening at 56,334 megawatts (MW) between 7-8 p.m. – a new all-time record for winter peak demand. ERCOT’s previous record for all time winter peak demand is 55,878 MW, which occurred on Jan. 8, 2010.
Although the immediate concerns for the possibility of rotating outages this evening are reduced, ERCOT will still be monitoring the grid closely this evening because additional unexpected major losses of generation could force operators to proceed with emergency procedures to avoid an uncontrolled statewide blackout.
Another record demand expected Thursday morning
At this time, the forecast for tomorrow’s peak load is 56,800 MW, which would break the record again. ERCOT is asking consumers to reduce energy consumption during peak-demand times from 6 – 9 a.m.
The grid continues to have more than 5,000 MW of generation out of service due to the effect of the extreme cold.

Well I linked it with a press release pasted from that site, problem was the release on the page was not what my email from work said. The email from works makes it sound like there might be some more rolling blackouts tomorrow morning during peak hours and they are monitoring the grid. If I get anything in more detail I will post it. In other words things are still down in terms of power creation therefore the grid can't support a full load. Just keep things off you don't need on and run the heat lower and cover up. Things the news said to do.

CMC showing a snow chance later next week. Looks like a close call on that run. Looks like 3 possibilities on that run.
A lot of snow for DFW.
A little bit of snow.
Starts as something other than snow then changes to snow.

Yup, that's part of the email I got. Fun times ahead. At least I can rest tonight knowing that Jerry World will be warm and have the power on no matter what.
