The HRRR is also horribly underestimating the existing bands out west. If its depiction at face value is giving y’all this level of confidence, I’d say things look pretty good

For weak radar returns it’s really ramping up from borderline light snow to decent light snow slightly bigger flakes. I think close to an inch in north Fort Worth.

So friggin satisfying after the last several snow events either skipped me or led to light snow for hours but no accumulation.

I’m too afraid of cursing us by predicting, but looking good like I wondered yesterday if it could wring out more moisture than models showed.

If that 2nd band actually materializes, probably looking at over 20:1 ratios during that time frame

Figured this was probably coming - the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has temporarily closed fishing along the Texas Gulf Coast. As noted here before, the December 1983 freeze (and to a lesser extent, the two freezes in 1989) nearly wiped out redfish along many portions of the Texas Gulf Coast. Others dating all the way back to the 1800s and beyond have done the same.

This freeze could be as bad and I’m afraid a severe fish kill could be coming down on the saltwater flats. Sure hope not.

Could also be a big shad kill at Lake Texoma and other Texas reservoirs where threadfin shad are the main forage base for largemouth bass, stripers, etc. This will be likely be very hard on numerous fish and wildlife species across Texas.

NWS detailed forecast has been upped from 2-4", to now showing 3-5" tonight and 1-3" tomorrow.

What does kuchera mean?

Accounts for higher snowfall ratios when it's not the "standard" 10:1. Colder temps (setup we have today is different than your typical snowfall event) can exceed that 10:1 and lead to higher snowfall totals.

It just keeps wanting to snow despite not looking like it. It's easy to snow in such cold depths.
